Great tips... Skating backwards is an often overlooked fundamental that more people need to focus on.... it is equally important to learn and get comfortable looking over both shoulders, utilizing both feet, and turning both directions... I've been working on it recently and realized that I need more work 😆

Great vid, top tips. I'm nearly three years in and still find backwards really tough. It's the last of the real basics I still haven't grasped. I was thinking how, to me, backwards feels totally different to forwards - and then you said exactly that! Watching you skate backwards I can see that, apart from confidence and balance, my main issue is the ability to use outside edges backwards. And I need to quit trying to stride forwards-style. Big thanks for posting 👍👍👍

I wish I had learnt this technique when I first started skating. Unfortunately I learnt bad habits and then had to unlearn relearn. Looking over your shoulder backwards first is often over looked and I think the key. I'm glad you really emphasised that. One thing I found that helped me as someone who often leans too far forward when skating backwards is to think of being a puppet on a string and this helps you pull your head and back more upright whilst the power comes from your hips and quads. Brilliant tutorial. It's great to see aggro skaters do the other forms just as well. I play hockey n I'm forever going to stop or do things I can in hockey skates whilst in my aggressive skates. It's good to see those variants. I'm rubbish skating backwards in aggros because I do the s method, so I'll give that a go. Thank you!

Good idea to do videos on the basics. If it's true that inline skating continues to upward trend especially during the pandemic, then more people are going to be looking for tips on how to improve their skills. I just watched an old Adam Sandler movie with my son. It's called Big Daddy and there are rollerbladers all over the place in that movie and it's not even about rollerblading. Of course it was 1999!

That's a very good tutorial with a lot of detailed and useful information. However I should say that the stance that you're showing is the aggressive skating stance for backwards. It's the"ready for grind" stance, when it's more convenient to look on the ground and upcoming obstacle. In general skating backwards it's much easier to turn the torso more and keep the back straight. You shouldn't be looking over the shoulder, you should almost put the shoulders in one line.

Hi Brandon, I have been rollerblading for many years, and I think your videos and tutorials are great. But If I could just mention something out there as a older rollerblader is that I always wish I would of learned looking past might left shoulder because I spin anti clock wise. Unfortunately I look over my right.... Its a real problem when wanting to do fakie spin trick or fakie to grind because im always unbalanced and looking by the wrong shoulder before throwing any rotation. ( hopefully you get what im trying to say) I think this is something who could of been adjusted from the start. But now I just do with it and train both shoulders. But I would recommend all young rollerbladers or people getting in to the sport to look back according to their spin side. Anyways keep up the great work. 😎😎😎
