As I was practising skating backwards, a friend of mine who's a figure skater gave me a few tips. One of the biggest and best advice he gave me was to... shift my weight to my heels. At first I thought I'd fall backwards but then I found that it helped me to achieve greater speed with less effort, and it improved my balance. Its logical; when you skate forwards, your weight is towards the front/ in the direction of travel. Going backwards is the same concept in reverse; you need to distribute most of your weight to your heels and lean towards the direction of travel. Its actually more comfortable to skate backwards as you can relax your upper body muscles due to the even distribution of your weight without unnecessary muscle input and hence fatigue.
@Berniebud5 жыл бұрын
This is not at all how I skate. I put my weight on the heels going forward as it lets me come over bumps much, much easier. Maybe for ice skating on a smooth surface that works fine, but the second you encounter any bump it's going to put a hard stop on your foot and send you flying backwards
@Boomy2nicce2 жыл бұрын

@santiagor486 Жыл бұрын
@@Berniebud nah fr, I thought the same thing, If I do that I have to break my neck and make sure I don’t hit anything or I’ll go flying to infinity and beyond.

I skated in the 1968 to 71 that's the last time I was on skates lot of fun now it's 2023 I'm really impressed how I didn't forget now I inline skate and that was a real challenge at first it didn't take long I'm going backwards and I'm doing pretty good forward but I got to watch my speed I can't get the breaking down I Wheels are just too rough on the road they grab too much or I just ain't got the angle I'll keep working on it you got some good points when you talk about skates you control them not the skate control you when in other video you emphasize breaking l have to keep working on it thank you for the hard-work and encouragement to stay alive no matter what Shalom OHAVI

I've not long just started staking, I looked all over KZbin for a decent video on skating backwards and all where either shite or filmed with a toaster, then I came across your video, and channel, its totally changed the way I skate. I made 100 percent improvement when I took your advice. I get better and better every time I go out. before I'd find a disused road somewhere because I'd feel a twat, but now I couldn't care less. thank you for your video

Once I'd mastered a few things I just thought sod it if I fall over, I fall over what's the worst that could happen, I'm now currently looking for a rec ice hockey team to join round Nottingham. Just get out there and skate, even if you think you look silly then 95 percent of the people you pass are 5 times as bad or have never even tried

Great video! took me a while to get the staggered stance going backwards, and I fall on my face when doing backward crossovers, but when I get it right it feels great! Good thing I do my practice in an empty parking lot at 2-3 am in the morning when the world is sleeping... occasionally I may wake them up with a thud and an "OW"... :D

Frederick Zilfo LOL that's what I used to do when I started skating again after 20 years. Whenever I could, when I finished work at 00:30-01:00, I went to any flat empty space, padded up with all I had, and spent 1 or 2 hours just practicing basic moves, away from curious eyes 😃. Eventually I changed parking lots for skate parks, to gain confidence in different situations before I ventured to the streets 😅

About the last slam. I've been there, I found the hard way skating backwards on blades can be unforgiving if your balance is not perfect. On Wheels you can still roll, correct or fall slower. On ice, once the blade catches the ice is game over. After 3 slams on my hips I always go on ice with crash shorts. I love this video. Watched it many times. I love skating backwards fast.

I struggled with reverse crossovers for a long time. Finally figured it out. Start by lifting one foot at a time while going backwards, and carving backwards. Then it’s easiest to start trying the crossover motion while going straight backwards slowly, almost like a side step. From there it’s totally natural to start actual reverse crossovers, just have to practice, now I can rip em!!
