finally someone who put it all together for me, 3 different approaches etc, applied it the next and crushed the bumps after years of doing it the wrong way. thinking of those shadows and approaches changed everything. thanks a 1000,000.

Man, where were you when I was learning way back? You are truly a very good teacher and I wish I had you as an instructor. The step by step instruction with the reasoning behind it is refreshing and eye opening. Every one of your videos is like a light bulb moment.....ah ha, now I get it! At 45 yrs old I am now becoming an advanced skier that is now not intimidated and is leaving the BLUES for the BLACKS thanks to you. It all started with learning to ski with flow and garlands.

Guy, this video is brilliant! And I don't mean "brilliant" in the British sense of "that's good"; rather, you're literally a ski genius. I think this approach will push me over the edge for my 3. In particularly, "outside bank line" will probably work miracles for me. Thank you!

I wouldn't push that inside wall line as it puts the student on the steepest and iciest part of the mogul. In the East anyway. That's the panic/survival line and doesn't really teach the best line for bumps. I would teach the wide line on shallower slopes and then increase the slope as the student gains confidence. This was a good bump series. The best I've seen on KZbin.

East Coast skiing is a completely different sport. 50% of the skiers that I call regulars where I ski, Ontario & Quebec, ski on non-FIS type race-skis - even older skiers. I've even seen a movement back to more skiers skiing narrower race-type skies. People who ski in the West don't understand grip & speed on the ice. I tune the skis in my house: everyone's 'soft' snow Enforcer 88s get .7-base & 3-side - and everyone's daily SL & GS skis get .5-base & 3or4-side

As an East coast skier (downhill ice skater) my reaction to that inside wall line technique was "Oh hell no." Our bumps are often trapezoidal ice blocks so the wide line is generally the best way to go. Love the clarity of this video though. Great tutorial

Awesome video. Would love to get to your level one day. Sometimes when the bumps are huge and the troughs are really scooped out, that outside bank line doesn't seem possible and I default to inside wall line in order to maintain control. Would love to see more about dealing with expert bumps.

+Mike Kelly HI Mike, thanks for the feedback. Keep working to perfect your "rut-line" skiing on smaller bumps and then work up to the deeper ones, as this is the only suitable tactic in large deep moguls. If you ever make it out to Whistler for some lessons, look us up! Thanks, Guy!
@ajtheguy
@ajtheguy Жыл бұрын
@@AlltracksAcademy This comment really helps explain the tactics to ski deep moguls. Deep moguls are like small mountains, they are so steep, the inside wall line is impossible to climb, the ski will get stuck between the valley and mogule.

pretty good bumper here - watch all 3 of you vids - one item I think you need to make clear - the difference between skiing bumps and bumping bumps - your rut line option and to a large extent the inside wall line are bumping - the outside is skiing or what we call avoiding the bumps. now, come to the east and show us how to ski ice bumps

@AlltracksAcademy

Absolutely, that is something I routinely teach during intro to bumps. It is ideal to teach it in smaller bumps that are space out...

You guys are usually very good but this one is definitely a beginners video. If everyone followed this advice the bumps would soon become a rutted track of narrow canyons with 3 sided ice pyramids. My line of choice is to ski where no one else is skiing, the nice soft snow of the tops and sides, wider than your lines and more asymmetric seeking the unskied portions, it's a different rhythm. Then again maybe I ski to the beat of a different drummer. Tip Stand Turn

2drsdan This is an excellent video series ( Part 3 ) on intro to advanced bumps. I couldn't disagree with you more..
@2drsdan
@2drsdan 9 жыл бұрын
It is a good video, for beginning bumps and these guys are right on the money when it comes to technique but again look at WHERE they are skiing in the moguls, it's in the troughs and if everyone ski'd that same line what would happen to the shape of the mogul field? In my opinion when they show how to CARVE in the moguls then you can call it advanced. I saw nothing but sliding here. Again these guys are very good teachers.
@rafaelfalagan3814
@rafaelfalagan3814 9 жыл бұрын
2drsdan I don't see him mentioning the word CARVE a single time. In fact the word CARVING does not exist in the world of moguls. Yes. You do slide in moguls. To be more exact you do side sleep with your balance on your uphill ski among other things. Again, this is not zipper line moguls video but a good intro to medium level ..I assume that this is only Part 3.. I like so far what I 've seen although not the whole story.

Skidding is not skiing I can give you a lesson if you'd like.
@rafaelfalagan3814
@rafaelfalagan3814 9 жыл бұрын
2drsdan I doubt it based on your comments.. No matter how good of a carver you are as the slope gets steeper skidding can't be avoided. Nothing wrong with it. Remember CARVING has no meaning in moguls.. Skidding is used a lot in moguls and in other conditions as well as a way of controlling your speed.

Guy, your description makes perfect sense in well-formed, fairly symmetric bumps. Unfortunately, I do most of my skiing in Colorado. We don't get as much snow as you guys in Whistler (boo-hoo). As a result, when the bumps get tracked out, they get huge, with hard, sharp dropoffs. The shape varies immensely with slope angle. Do you have any advice on skiing these funky bumps?
@AlltracksAcademy
@AlltracksAcademy 5 жыл бұрын
HI Morgan, those bumps can be difficult - usually I apply the "rut-line" approach (based on limited options) and resign to utilising a large range of motion (on vertical plane). Freestyle outline training is a good way to get used to the timing. Thanks for watching...

Number three is smooth and sexy. Number one is the ice maker and the toughest line for enjoyment. Number two is too fast and the least fun for me. Want to ski bumps well? Learn to carve well because you need the same movements for that third type.

Those look like nice soft round bumps. How do you ski the Inner Wall or Outside Bank lines when the moguls are not rhythmic, badly shaped, and have those nasty cliffs on either side of them?
@AlltracksAcademy
@AlltracksAcademy 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Dennis, thanks for the comment. Not all of these line option are appropriate for all bump scenarios. In big, deep and sharp bump, you may well be relegated to the Rut-line option, as the Bank and Wall options are better used in more moderate terrain.....Have a great season!

Also if I'm an expert groomer skiier of 30 years, black and double black diamonds, and now just starting to do bumps and perhaps a couple ungroomed back bowls, what type of ski would you suggest - say 70/30 groomed vs bumps/glades/loose/powder. What specific features should I look for in that ski?
@AlltracksAcademy

Thanks for your interest in this Video. I would suggest any ski between 80mm and 90mm under foot....something with a little reverse entry rocker - the Rossi E88 or E84 would be ideal. Happy skiing! Guy

Is it just me the inside wall line seems to be quite unstable to turn after going down the bump?
@AlltracksAcademy
@AlltracksAcademy 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question - the inside wall line is not always appropriate as it can often get a bit chunky (especially on bigger bumps on steep terrain) and as such I only ever recommend it as a line option on medium, well spaced bumps such as the ones featured in this video. Cheers, Guy.

All the same line ski over moguls not around them. Turn on the big white spot. AKA back side. Skis are sliding, use some edge hold, but feather the top o the turn and carve in the moguls. The difference between the A team and B team is the A team can dance.
