One thing not mentioned here, but helpful in deeper snow, is using the pole plant to time your slightly unweighting the skis to help slide them around.

I’ve always heard the opposite? That you should avoid more rotary in deep snow as the tips and tails will be bogged down under the snow? So essentially you just tip the skis laterally?

if there is powdery snow underfoot the snow will break away and you won't get a reaction underfoot if you try and carve it out in the same way you would on piste, some lateral movement is ok but you will also need to rely on rotation to steer the turn
