Hi Paul, I am enjoying watching your videos for I am a first-time DIY. I have taken the 3 layer of wallpaper and paint on top of wallpaper off and now at the stage of sanding my walls back. I was told by a paint specialist that my walls are one of the worst he's come across. However the work has to be done so watching your videos is encouraging me that it can be done. So thank you for your videos

Paul, thank you so much! I just removed 4 layers of wall paper from our hallway, below the chair rail. I'm a pretty handy lady but this would be my first time tackling a wall repair. This video really boosts my confidence. I was gonna order from HD but will be happy to support your store instead.

Hi Paul, I’m a DIYer from Puerto Rico, your video is great, thanks for this tutorial. I just removed a wallpaper with 2-3 coats of paint on it, but thankfully the wall doesn’t look as bad as the one in this vid. Tomorrow I’ll go buy Gardz since I had no idea that was the next step and that’s how I found you, after googling what should I do next. Question: how do I smooth the compund to a yogurt consistency if I bought the one that’s already mixed? I just found out our Home Depot doesn’t sell Gardz, can you suggest another equivalent product?

Thank you Paul Peck! I took out the wallpaper and several coats of paint on top of the wallpaper that had been in our guest bedroom since we moved there 25 yrs ago. By the time I got done my walls were a disaster. Since watching your video and you answering my question I was able to finish the guest bedroom and make it look fabulous. My husband was amazed! Thanks for saving me lots of money, I thought I was going to have to hire someone to fix my mess. I'm a 62 yr old female and I feel great being able to accomplish this big project! Couldn't have done it without following your video!

Hi Paul, DIYer here, remodeling my 1913 bungalow kitchen. Had a contractor raise the ceiling 2' in half of the area to match the other half, and I'm doing everything from the mudding and taping on out. I have new drywall butted against old drywall, plywood walls, and mdf - and NOTHING lines up nicely! Also, there were damaged areas where I removed tile. Gardz worked great there! About to skim coat, and your videos are giving me some much-needed encouragement!

I tried skimming over bare brown paper last year and it was a disaster, it does bubble like crazy. Took me 4 layers of drying and sanding over a few days to finally get it under control. Then I saw one of your earlier videos about using Gardz. anyone who says the paper won't bubble is lying.

You can use mud like this on some paper and it soaks up the moisture and pull right off when before it was impossible to pull off… or skim like this then spray knock down

Avid diyer here, and have always avoided major drywall repairs other than quick patches. Recently purchased a 1962 home that had multiple layers of wallpaper. After removing everything I found wall patches from previous renovations and none of the texture matched. After repairing anchor holes, screw holes and other damage, the walls looked like Swiss cheese - and I was about to call a Drywaller to skim coat the whole thing when I found your videos. I decided to try it myself - it’s not like I could make them any worse! 1 12” knife and pan and 6” taping knife, a couple of buckets all purpose joint compound and a 3/4” masonry roller (all in about $75) and a couple of afternoons of my time - my walls look absolutely gorgeous. Perfectly smooth (even with an eggshell paint!) they look better than any repair I’ve paid for in the past! Thanks for the great videos!!

Hey Paul, Thanks so much for these videos. I am an independent remodeling contractor and have been for about thirty years. I've done lots of full on turnkey remodeling projects and do 90% of the work myself but always avoided major drywall repair jobs and wallpaper nightmare repairs because... well I'm kind of slow and until recently not real proficient at drywall finishing. But, 4 months ago I started watching your videos and immediately began improving. I am currently on a project in which the client has requested that the popcorn ceiling be removed. After watching your skim coating videos I feel confident that I can give them a smooth ceiling and leave them well satisfied. I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks again!

I can't tell you how thankful I am for this video. The previous owners of this home not only did a terrible job with the addition to the house but they did a terrible job with the drywall, placing the wallpaper, removal of wallpaper, and then another bad wallpaper job on top of that. It's a nightmare. Just purchased the guardz primer, sanded down some areas, and removed excess wallpaper. I am a DIYer but know more about plumbing (daughter of a plumber) so this is all somewhat new to me. I have had enough experience to know that the job the previous owners did was a "diy don't"! LOL! Thanks to you I know how to overcome this little hiccup and I hope it works so I don't have to replace the drywall.

I'm a DIYEr! I'm working on my kitchen walls. The previous owner took down some tile in some areas and left wallpaper up in others. They covered the damaged walls with bead board. Lots of gouges where they took the tile down and adhesive glue where I took the wallpaper down. I had an idea of how to skim coat but I wanted to see a Pro do it so I can learn some new tips. Thank you for this video! Very detailed and informative!

dIYer here started flipping homes helping a friend do things I knew what to do , meanwhile contractors would come do works and I would ask if I could learn by watching most said yes and now I work for a realtor who buys and rents homes and I’m always busy , dry wall repairs was one I was always late for as I had a full time 8 hour job then so by the time I I helped do my part that was most of the time finished or they were just sanding walls down :( So now thanks to you I know what products to use and how it’s done from start to finish. Thank you so much for sharing this!! Wall looks like new by the way!

Homeowner DIY here. I have 2 kitchen walls that the previous owner did a texture paint 1/2 way up the wall. I hid it with wall paper years ago but have decided that the time has come to get it back to all paint. I got the wall paper off no problem and now it is time to deal with the texture. I ran a sander over it and the peaks come off the paint pretty easy but the valleys are still there. Did some research and found that there are several high build primer products on the market that I could use. I went to 3 paint supply stores, 2 box stores and a couple of small independent hardware stores. May as well have been talking to the wall. Not a one of them had a clue what I wanted. I even pulled up the product on the stores own website with a SKU number. Nope, can't get that. So here I am. I'm not the best drywaller but I am willing to give this a try. Thanks for the lesson.

Hi Paul, I'm Todd, I'm a Tile Contractor in Orange County, CA. I just peeled off the wallpaper in a bathroom in my Dad's house and We are going to paint the walls white. I've seen a lot of drywall guys over the years and I've witnessed some ok work and some downright pathetic work by them ( all the trades actually). I have seen some great quality work in the past but very rare. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. No-nonsense. great tips! I can tell you're highly skilled at this and so I'm using your approach and technique to skim coat my dad's bathroom walls. Wish me luck! And thank you for sharing this.

Thank you so much. We owned rentals for 23 years and did all our own repairs. We might flip a home if they sell it to us and their is wall paper in just about every room. I’m figuring the budget and time. My brothers are construction workers and I can summon their assistance if needed. Your video was extremely helpful.

I’m a professional wallpaper hanger. I usually scoff at a lot of these videos, but you’re spot on. Some kind of sealer to seal the damaged places in the drywall is very important. I really feel that frequently do it your selfers cause themselves much pain when they basically destroy the wall while being determined that the paper must come off. If it is smooth and tight it may be better to go over the paper rather than doing all that damage. The worse tool is the paper tiger. It really does a lot of damage. Thank you for a well informed video

Working on a kitchen that was probably 40 years old. Must have had a couple of coats of wallpaper on it before I came. And after each coat of wallpaper there was a very good reason to wallpaper again because it was a mess each time. A very rough wall. I hope to enjoy your skim coating lessons.

We bought our house a couple years ago and and are just now starting to try and update it a little. I turned to KZbin because we starting removing the white textured wallpaper in our entrance way to find three layers of botched wallpaper jobs underneath. It looks like the walls have been completely destroyed. I had no idea what to do about it. I'm super grateful for videos like this to help me out.

I'm a DIYer, bought a house that was diy and rush repaired. Trying to fix up painted over double wallpaper with really old, dried out paste underneath that literally came off the wall in sheets with no effort... I tried to chip off a lifting corner and ended up stripping the entire kitchen 😑 really appreciate the Gardz tip, it'll be a while before we can get to it but I'm really hoping this will help us fix up this house properly, thank you for uploading this!!
