How to Skip the Consulates | Family Link Applications

Do you qualify through family ties to skip the Consulates on your journey to residency in Mexico? In this video I continue the discussion of the three principal residency options in Mexico and explain who qualifies to skip step one [at the consulate office] and start directly IN Mexico, at the INM office for Immigration. @@MixedinMexico what is your recommendation of safety in Guadalajara mexico especially with how the news betray things there like gangs drug cartels. I understand like all cities you must be careful regardless.

How about children of a Mexican National? We adopted three and would they be able to qualify - they were born in the USA. Thanks for a nice and enthusiastic presentation.

Hi Dennis. That's a great question! My thoughts are; yes! As long as the children are minors [under 18]; & you have all of the adoption paperwork, apostilles, and all of your names match exactly on all the paperwork, you should have no problem availing yourself of this arrangement for them to become temporary or permanent residents. You may even be able to get them Citizenship at a Registro Civil office in Mexico instead, if their birth certificates have been amended to include the Mexican National's name. I'm not 1000%, but it's definitely worth looking into. Hopefully that was helpful! :)

My wife and I would likely move to Mexico after we sell our house, but our three daughters are doing fine with their husbands and children. If they did want to relo to Mex., I've read there are excellent schools there and the students become bi-lingual as well. In Mex., it's like going back in time to a better place in time - people have more time for people.

Your video is informative and helpful. My wife is a Mexican citizen. Our son was born in the US. Does he immediately get citizenship? Can I then get permanent residency?

Hi @beaumac Yes, your son can get citizenship right away. And you will qualify for residency through either one of them. In my case (being married to a Mexican Citizen) I had to be a temporary resident for 2 years first before I could transition to my permanent residency. I hope that helps!

My husband has dual citizenship. I am a US citizen. Do I qualify for citizenship, skipping the consulate? If so, how do I go about applying for citizenship so I too have dual citizenship? I'm confused ...

Hi @lorenareyes4685 The main way to qualify for Citizenship in Mexico is through birth [either yours or that of your parents'], there is not an option right now for Citizenship through marriage. There is, however a fast track to Permanent Residency and Mexican Citizenship [with an exam] through marriage. You can use your dad's Mexican Citizenship to become a permanent resident of Mexico if you are a minor (under 18) otherwise you have the unique privilege of jumping straight to being a Mexican Citizen through him.
