Sleep is so important, and I believe this remedy will help you get the sleep you need. The best natural remedy for sleep is kefir. Consume 1/2 cup of kefir before bed for better sleep.
Kefir is similar to yogurt, but it’s better. It has more healthy, diverse microbes than yogurt. Many of these friendly microbes also survive your stomach acids, whereas the microbes in yogurt don’t.
Kefir not only has friendly bacteria but friendly yeast, too. This combination is essential. People with lactose intolerance also have an easier time digesting kefir than yogurt.
Health benefits of kefir:
• Decreased liver fat
• Fewer allergy symptoms
• Improved immune system
• Decreased inflammation
• Less constipation
• Better blood sugar
• Better blood pressure
• Decreased pathogens
Certain microbes make serotonin. The more of the right microbes you have, the more serotonin you’ll have. Serotonin is a hormone that can positively affect your mood and reduce stress.
Kefir provides microbes that make melatonin, which is a sleep hormone. Not only that, but kefir contains microbes that make the amino acid tryptophan. Tryptophan turns into serotonin and then melatonin.
Kefir is a good source of bioavailable calcium, which can help you get to sleep and stay asleep. The microbes in kefir also make certain B vitamins, which can greatly help with stress and calm a busy mind. The lactobacillus in kefir helps reduce cortisol, which will also help you sleep better.
I highly recommend making your own kefir. You need something called kefir live grains (there is no grain in it) to get started.
I like using goat milk, but you can use cow milk. The website I use to buy my kefir grains (happyherbalist.com) explains exactly how to make kefir.
Basically, you add 1 Tbsp of the kefir grains to 1 to 2 cups of milk. Then, you set it on the counter and cover it using a cloth or paper towel and a rubber band. After 24 hours, you’ll have kefir.

ONE POINT I failed to emphasize. Fasting! This video addresses those who having a problem sleeping, so kefir is a great remedy to take before bed. However, depending on your pattern of fasting, this kefir can knock you out of ketosis for a bit of time so shift the time you consume kefir to right after your last meal instead of before bed. Also - if you do plain whole milk kefir and only half a cup - sugars will be pretty small. But if you make it yourself, you can ferment it longer and reduce the sugars - but it will be sour.

Dear Dr. Berg, I would like to thank you for sharing useful information. After starting keto I lost about 5% of my weight in 40 days. But the most surprising success was increasing my sleep quality. Average night wake-ups decreased from 4 to 1. I even had a 0, which I never observed in last 2.5 years, which is also surprising during hot summer nights. I tried different diets and activities before, but none affected my sleep in a such effective way. Thank you and wish you the best! Regards

Not enough doctors so even though our government pays for them you wonder what is the point. Even the lousy ones are fully booked - impossible to get accepted as a new patient with a good one here (which is rare !). I'm not a fan of self diagnosis or self medication but what I've heard in this video rings true. Inside my body. A lot going on I can't see. But, all of this makes sense. I can only get better day by day. I just take one day at a time. Record in my diary how I am feeling etc ... If I loose weight. I don't care so much about that. It was how I was feeling inside. Take care he is good. He contacted me. True.

Dr. Eric, I am so glad I came across your information on Kefir. I make my own now and I truly love it. I am not a milk drinker but I love this stuff. On my own I made a shake with Kale leaves, blueberries and Kefir I also added cinnamon. Today I discovered your video on the same thing! Lol. Thank you for doing these videos.

@@nancyellen8006 Hi, exactly as blind bandit mentioned - low carbs high fat. As names states you eat as few carbs as possible. Difference between vanilla keto is higher proteins, for example i can eat well with cheese and kefir/ buttermilk. In my opinion it's easier to maintain due to wider selection of foods to choose from.

@@donna8243 well, what can i say. I've started in my house (;p) from 116kg somewhere 2wks ago. I've heard about this "no carbs" diet which was totally insane at first glance, because here in Poland bread and potatoes are as common ingredients as pasta is for Italians. But i've tried nevertheless, BMI factor was telling me that i am way too short for my mass so i had to do something. Once looking for more infos about what i am actually doing and what side effects can affect me, i've stumbled upon dr Berg's videos and thanks to his really detailed analysis on molecular level i was convinced that i chose right path. Shortly after i've started 16:8 IF, now i feel pretty comfortable with 20:4, sometimes even prolonging fasts. If you rather wanted to ask how i started and maintained - it's rather simple. Stop counting calories, drop carbs and look how you are feeling. If you will want to go further into better you - consider 16:8. Protip: you will feel hunger during first 2 days, but it isn't nothing that couldn't be drowned in water (literally). Wanna eat? Drink glass of water instead. Water tastes too lean? Add lemon juice. I am sure that i've seen on dr Berg's channel somewhere a clip about recommended drinks recipies. Last but not least - remember that dropping carbs (and by that i mean sweetening tea, sodas, bread, fries, corn and oat flakes) greatly improves your chances to stay on IF. Hunger isn't then as nagging as it would be when you'd have empty stomach and lacking of sugar. i might had some headstart as i stopped sweetening my tea few years ago, i was so obese that i rather chose apple over jellies or candybars, if you are in "sugar junkie" point of your life, seriously consider looking for breaking sugar addiction first. ps. now i am 109kg and i cannot consider myself as "starving"; in fact i am eating better than ever ;) feel free to ask more questions, i am willing to share to extent of my own experiences.

It's the 10th today. And already our energy levels have balanced everyday since myself and one other family member has started drinking kefir. That drink is a little miracle worker. There was no kale. So we drank kefir just to get a sample of happiness. And sprouts and I haven't touched our avocados as yet, but it's once a week isn't it. I tried the keto diet today on the 10th of June 22. But only had one egg haha.however I ate it with half of my plate being sprouts and lettuce. My levels of energy has been better than before. Today I brought watercress and I will use sprouts and 4 boiled eggs, I really want 5 boiled eggs for tomorrow breakfast. I hope to balance my 2 meals for the day. Cause I worry about my insulin. I just need to look at my stomach and know Dr Berg is right. Thx again doctor Berg

And yes, sleep is so important and so elusive, as we age. Am trying to give up my breakfast bread (full of “good things”) and yogurt with honey and fresh fruit (too much honey! ) and sugar, and bread in general- Kefir has a slightly different flavor and tang. It is delicious with raspberries, as you’ve suggested for a breakfast shake, or over oatmeal with a smidge of honey or Truvia (have you addressed those sweeteners in a video?) I’ll bet you have. I’ve been watching you for awhile now. Putting together lots of videos from you (and others) I have lost 60 lbs over the past year, and am on my way to my pre-pregnancy weight again! First time since I was in my late 30’s when due to dental work I was on a liquid diet. This way is MUCH better. 🎉❤😊

This is good to know re Kefir = good/better sleep. I’ve been making kefir for over 5 years now. This is what I learned that may help others. I use organic cows milk @ 2%. Do not used Ultra Pasteurized milk, only pasteurized as the “Ultra pasteurization” kills many if not most of the beneficial bacteria. Also, after watching a KZbin of an older ethnic woman, she rinsed her grains after sieving as she indicated that the end product, the kefir, would turn out less tart. I now rinse my kefir grains with distilled water. I use a ball jar and use an in bleached coffee filter with the outer ball jar ring to keep out any undesirable pests. Thank you for the kefir/sleep info!
