@crazyanimalmama2 жыл бұрын
@@Zainab-pe8qi I know it's been a few months since your comment but hopefully this helps.. First and best thing is to start watching all the curly and wavy hair videos you can find. Watch them all because it will give you 100+ unique or slightly different techniques to try. Start with whatever looks reasonable to you for the effort you want to put in and give it a try. Since your concerned with product cost I would suggest switching to a curly hair shampoo/conditioner since you already buy those products. Then focus on techniques more than products. Try to avoid brushing hair unless it's soaking wet and preferably with at least conditioner in it. Take your brush into the shower with you. Once you're familiar with the various options and have a few your comfortable doing. Consider adding the basic products (and they don't have to be pricey versions). Leave in conditioner is very important; tell your mother it helps detangle your hair she might like that if she doesn't like how you're hair is frizzy/tangled. Then you can go from there. But definitely work on how to care for your curls with videos like this and methods to decrease frizz and tangles.

It's true that the black community kept these strategies alive and accessible to everyone but it's not true that they are the only ones who've used fabric to wrap hair to protect it. Braiding and wrapping hair is seen in Asia (silk comes from China after all), indigenous peoples of Western and Eastern Europe, Native Americans and indigenous people in Oceania. Even as recently as during and at the end of WWII white women were wrapping their hair in cotton fabric to reduce how often they washed their hair due to war rations...that's where the hairstyle victory rolls came from. I had a friend in grade 6 who made her own bonnet from a pillowcase so she could sleep in a bit longer on school mornings. At that time (early 2000s) in Australia we'd never really seen a bonnet in our city school this was an idea that she thought of all on her own as a white early teen. I'm not saying that the black community doesn't deserve credit for perfecting curly hair care but what I am saying is humans of all races have found ways to protect hair throughout history so no one should feel uncomfortable about using a bonnet or a dutch braid or a satin pillow case.

I'm tired of letting people telling me that wavy/curly hair is undesirable and ugly bc first of all I don't agree, and second of all, if I'm to love myself and take care of myself, that includes my hair as well. It's gotten very long (couple inches lower than waist), and I'm no longer willing to let people put me down for my hair. Thank you!!! I have hair almost exactly like yours. I hate it touching my neck when I sleep so I have slept in a pony tail for the majority of my life. Because of this is have brittle hair and so much breakage. My oldest daughter also has the same curls but she has autism and HATES brushing her hair. But the patch on her crown is a completely different texture because of the friction with furniture and pillows. I got her a silk pillowcase but because it’s not Elsa she sleeps with her Elsa pillow. So I recently decided to try a bonnet. It’s so hard to get all of her hair into it and we do still have to brush it. But it has been much better since. Now I’m realizing that I need to try this for my 4 year old too. She has curly hair that DOESNT GROW! she’s never had a haircut and it’s so thin and broken because of malnutrition caused by her eating disorder. So when I saw her pillow covered in hair I had no idea it was pillow related. She now has a silk pillowcase but I want to try the bonnet with her.

I have loose curls that refresh well, but since cutting it to around shoulder length, it's too short to pineapple into my bonnet, and it makes it look wayyy worse when I do try. It just seems like it looks horrendous until I wet it down with the spray bottle, and I'm hoping your clip method will help me avoid the soakage every day lol. Thank you! I follow your channel for my daughter's hair. She has curly hair with the exception of a straight section right on top of her hair that drapes over everything and sometimes snuffs out her curls (we call it her mommy patch because I have straight hair and her dad has curly) Lately at night we've been having trouble with her hair knotting like crazy (she's a bit of a reckless sleeper lol she moves alot) so I will try to put some of these methods to the test!

Helps to smooth a little leave in over the curls before putting it up as well! Hope you find something that works for her!

Kirby Rose have you tried using a pin curl or sponge roller or two with the straight patch? It could even out her curls. Try it! It works.

@@nilagetter1705 I have yet to use sponge rollers on her, but I have used them in the past and yes they do work quite well. I'll have to start putting a few on top of her head before bed!

FYI I have straight hair on my top section too! I learned from Atoya Bass that this a very normal wavy curly hair pattern, but we don't see it reprented in media much because everyone wants uniformity.

Great video! Didn’t even think of half bun and unicorn for sleeping...or the clips. Thank you for the great info and featuring the Afrona as an option! Besos y abrazos!

My hair just ends up frizzy. My hair has always been fine but now that I have a fringe of grey around my face it is super fine and I look like a swamp witch 90% of the time and 100% of the time when I sleep on my hair. I have always washed my hair every day to get my nice spiral curls back. I love your makeup in this video. I’m 50 and have never worn makeup and know nothing about it. I like that your makeup emphasizes your natural beauty without taking centre stage. Would love to know what you do to get this look (besides being young and naturally beautiful😁

I never thought to do clips under the bonnet! That's such a good idea!

As I currently can’t afford to get anything to protect most of my curls if I am being particularly picky and won’t just pineapple I dry plop to protect my curls. Which can cause a little frizz but not bad and the definition is still there which is my biggest problem so I’m not complaining much.

I did not take care of my curls for most of my life. I actually didn’t have curly hair until I went through puberty, because of this, my curl pattern got super messed up. I have wavy curls (2B/2C) and this tutorial really helped me with my natural hair journey! TYSM JANELLE!

Thank you for this! Looking for more things to add in to my self-care/haircare journey... One year in, just about, and my hair has finally transitioned back from a fried 2a towards a solid 2c - I ought to be at a 3a, so, hopefully applying some of these ideas for sleep will help! :)

Great video!! Now that my hair’s a little longer I can almost do a pineapple, I can do the clips and do have a bonnet that I wear. So really need to try pineapple w/bonnet! Thanks, Jannelle 😘

Wow this is such a helpful video!! Thanks so much for sharing. So many good ideas to try and see what works for my hair texture. About to get those hair clips bc I too have fine medium curls and hated a bonnet for similar reasons; that tube is intriguing also

I have decided to just start Embrace my curls and stop straightening them after years of doing it... all i have to protect my curls is a bonnet i got off amazon and I have an issue with my curls going flat when i take it off in the am... its curly but they are like flat curls instead of natural spirals like they are when you first wash and dry them.

So I have very long hair that has the wave shape of 2b but the fine thiness of 2a. I struggle so much to get volume as everything weighs down my hair. I also had no idea how to take care of my hair as the only person with waves was my father who always kept it buzz cut and couldn't care less about maintaining his hair. I spend my whole life thinking I had just shit frizzy hair that I could do absolutely nothing with. I just recently learned about hair type and how I'm SUPPOSED to be treating my hair. Your videos have been so helpful.

So first I love your hairs volume! Second, thank you for this, I've been trying to find better ways than just the bonnet, and the clips with my bonnet might be perfect!
