Slide tackling is an art. Get it right and it can save your team from potentially conceding a goal. Get it wrong and you could be taking an early bath or even risk seriously injuring an opponent or yourself. Hi, no I don't think that would change anything. Ultimately, it has to be comfortable technique and work for you so adaptation is definitely key 👍

It is a lot in the mind when slide tackling as people worry about getting hurt. This is why you would think twice about sliding on astro etc or if the pitch is dry with not much grass! Yes you will naturally have your shin slide along the surface as part of the action 👍

How do you know if you’re gonna get faked? For example on the cross, the attacker could fake and make you eat the turf

Always wait til the attacker pick a side and goes for it (actually tries to go past you). Forget all the bullshit and dribbles he does infront of the ball, once he starts his run that’s your cue.

Great, great question and the reality is this happens a lot. IMO from when I played as a full back and was in this situation a lot you have to read the situation and the opponent. For example, if you know the player is chopping/faking a lot in the game or you know this is what they like to do then you may want to stay on feet more. However, for me it is more down to the moment - where on the pitch is it? Is it a dangerous moment ie is he going to shoot or cross in crucial area - if so you need to weigh up risk vs reward of going to ground. Do you do it to prevent a dangerous shot or cross and risk getting faked? Ok if this happens have you got cover? Will this still delay the attacker? Ideal situation when you are not sure what they might do you lunge to get across but stay on feet so you can adjust if they fake.

Hi mate, not sure theres such thing as a 'normal' slide tackle. I personally think as soon as you go to slide (remember slide tackle should be last resort) then it becomes an art - your body is not really connected to gravity so theres many different ways you can slide to get a ball but this video shows more contemporary methods.
