Took the words right out of my mouth! This makes me want to break out my surfing wetsuit, my mask and snorkel from my last trip to Mexico, and a few tools from my workshop and go jump in a river! Gary,, Your videos are the best. Straight up , no bs about it. You make a guy feel like he`s right along with you and feels right at home. I`ve been wanting to do some gold hunting all my life and have been watching everything i can find online. You are the tops bro, thanks a lot. Sadly i live in PA and I`ve never heard of a speck of gold found anywhere near me. I`m saving up though and am hopeful i can make a trip to Alaska. Gary, I have watched your videos for couple weeks now. Have been tromping on creeks of the southern Los Padres National Forest for the past 20 years working to control invasive plants, but I had never really thought about prospecting. Well, all that changed today. Had much fun trying to figure out what a likely crevice might be, and got really good at getting my pan down to the fine black sand! Well got a quite a few pieces of lead, too, and a lot of black sand! No wonder the miners all left here as soon as big strikes happened up in your neck of the woods. But I have other stretches of my favorite river in mind where I know some prospecting took place, and the next time I write, I hope to be reporting even better success! Many thanks for all the work and teaching you do!
@TwoToes7 жыл бұрын
If your getting small pieces of lead, your looking in the right spots and panning correctly. Good luck and enjoy the journey! Thanks - Gary

Nice instructional video Gary I'm learning so much from you and I've been prospecting, rock-hounding, since I was old enough to walk and detecting since I was 12 and I'm in my 60's and have no intention of stopping any of it. FYI for me most of what you do in your videos I have done, just you have simplified a lot of stuff for me. Thank so much. There should be more teachers like you.

You spend a lot of valuable time setting up your various shots in this one. A lot of extra climbing and backtracking to retrieve the camera then move on. Using time you could be sniping or panning so I really appreciate your vids especially the ones that show us the beauty and ruggedness of the river.

Just found your channel Gary. Watched a couple of videos and I simply HAD to subscribe. As others have said your videos are amazing. Clear pictures, precise, accurate how-to information delivered in clear easy to understand language. Well done sir! I have been a prospector for ~45 years and still learn new things all the time. I live in Washington State (Western part) and our bedrock is mostly buried under at least 3' of overburden. Needless to say we don't get many opportunities to snipe or crevice in our part of the state. Those areas that are exposed get worked over very, very hard. So I concentrate on what we have the most of by far....100 mesh or less. I only get to dream of chunky gold like you find. Thanks and....Keep these great videos coming!

@TwoToes8 жыл бұрын
+2580jordan Most of the stuff these days is made in Taiwan, not much difference between them. I buy US when I can. When it comes to goggles buy good ones, they will last for many years. Comfort is the most important thing, they have to fit good, you will be wearing them for hours at a time. I like the small snorkeling type because they fix in a pack better, and they are less likely to break. I like a snorkel with out a purge. I have gone threw 3 last year, none were any good. I'm still looking. In the spring, I use a 6.5 mm farmer john wetsuit with the hood attached. When the water warms up, I switch to a 3mm one piece suit. Don't spend a lot on a wetsuit, they get tore up fairly quick (2 -3 years).

If you have time in the future I wouldn't mind more on locating area's of river for sniping. I was pretty amazed at the white-water you were sniping in, it was clipping along pretty good. I was also surprised that you could see so well under all the white-water, never would have guessed it. Do you always pick white-water area's over calm sections? And also is there much more of a benefit for guys who snipe with scuba tanks?
@TwoToes9 жыл бұрын
+Shawn Doe I have a video on " How to Crevice for gold " You use the same methods to locate areas under water. Sniping is just crevicing under water. When working the white water, most of the time the bubbles don't make it all the way to the bottom. I like working in the areas most sane people won't go. The hard part is staying put. I use hookah sometime to snipe, but scuba tanks are to heavy and they don't last long enough. To use the tanks you would have work in a areas that are to close to the road.
