So glad I remembered this tip! Last time I got my brown sugar out, it was a rock. I scraped off what I needed then put the whole bag in a ziplock with a wet paper towel (I didn't think my gf bread was moist enough) at the bottom and forgot all about it. I just got the sugar out to bake again and it feels perfect. Bourbon pecan cookies, here I come!

I usually just use the heal of the loaf of bread to put in my brown sugar since I don't use those as often. Or since hot dog buns break so easily I'll put those broken pieces in with the brown sugar.

It is easy to keep brown sugar from hardening in the first place. After using brown sugar, I fold tight the top of the plastic bag it is in, squeezing as much air out as I can, and put a rubber band around it. I Then put that bag inside a 1 quart zipper top bag, squeeze as much air out as I can, and zip the bag shut. (I have Glad "zipper top" bags, but I am sure ziplock works also.) I then put the sugar back in the box and keep it in the refrigerator. My sugar never hardens and I know I sometimes have kept it well over 6 months.

I don't know if I want to use up refrigerator space on brown sugar, but thanks. Usually just in the pantry in a sealed container works for me.

I soak a clay stone in hot water for a few hours and then wipe off excess and put in container. It works just great.

Can I use a toaster over instead of the microwave?
@jerryjamesstone3 жыл бұрын
no
@joemckim11832 жыл бұрын
I assume you meant to put toaster oven but no. A toaster would do nothing but dry it out even more so. A microwave works because it cooks the food from the inside out. But the bread trick is really the best method.

🤔That didn’t work. The 20 minutes, wet towel in the microwave. NOPE 👎🏾 I tried it 5x’s and the sugar is still hard. I’ve only been able to scrape the surface of it. 🤷🏽♀️

The real question is: can you soften my brown sugar. Honey, I've tried tea bags, marshmallows, sliced apples, raisins, poppyseeds and I am dried out. White bread, please! Thanks. 😯😂😗
