A plastic-free way to do this is to put the clay into a bowl and cover it with a wet towel or a wet cloth. The clay will naturally absorb the moisture. I never thought about poking holes in it though, so thanks for the handy tip 😉👍

If you are using the Crayon brand clay I recommend putting alittle bit of water in the bucket and put the pice of harden clay in. It usually gets soft after 1-8 hours.

Ill have to do some back tracking to find out for sure what type of clay my kids are using but I do have a question that may help me in the end. If you were to put the same clay your using in a dish of water that would submerge the clay to about half way or so what would happen? That's what we tried when their clay was left out and dried before they had a chance to make good use of it, and we didn't have very good results. I will try this method and see what becomes of it. I just had to wonder if the bag around the clay and the twisting and tightening of the bag was actually forcing the water into the clay and it wasn't a case of the clay merely just absorbing the water from a standstill. I was cracking up at some of the comments from the other viewers and almost thought of adding my own such as "What if I have hard water? Will it still make the clay soft or should I start with softening the water? You appear to have soft hands where mine are more rugged, will this affect the clay or should I have someone else do it? I decided to include them anyway so that hopefully you or anyone else can have a laugh at them, and you can't laugh without a smile right?
@redtedart5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it does depend on the type of clay. This technique should work with all natural clay

I bought some clearance clay yesterday and it was hard as a rock. It is softer today, and it has been 24 hours, but still fairly hard. As a beginner and i saw your video but I have a question, i bought two blocks of clay, red and grey one, excuse my ignorance with this field, both whan i started working with the dough have crackles and no elesticy at all, i thought maybe dryness is the cause so i put in bag add water, waited not to take long after wedging they returned the same!!! Although they are very soft and moist, this is driving me crazy!! Maybe bad quality? But in switzerland all must be tested before going to the market. All in google speak about cracles when drying no one spoke about when it ismoist. Thank you in advance if you can give me an advice.
