Type in a+ib/c+id in the calculator. Change the answer to polar form. Divide the angle value (Theta value) by 2 and take the square root of the modulus(r value). Now you will have a new complex number in polar form, change it to rectangular form.

For example, to find the square root of -5+12i. Type in the number in the calculator in the complex mode. Change the answer to polar form which gives us 13 at an angle of 112.62°. Now we divide the angle value by 2 giving us 56.3°. We take the square root of the other value giving us square root(13). We now have complex number square root(13) at and angle of 56.3°. We change it to polar form which gives us 2+3i which is the square root of -5+12i
