In this step, you are going to make sure that all the edge pieces are sitting neatly next to each other. You will look for 2 edge cubes and position them opposite each other, as explained in the video. It is useful to choose which side you are going to solve through. In this case, we will solve through the L side. So they can be merged in 2 ways.After you have merged them you replace them with 2 edge pieces that are not yet solved, you can already position them at the indicated position.

Tip: if the 2 edges are directly opposite each other and you cannot join them with a u or d turn then you can run the following algorithm to join them diagonally: LI - R - U - F - UI - L
You repeat this situation until you still need to merge the last 2. Since now you cannot substitute with the top position anymore, you can run the following algorithm to correctly position these last 4 edge blocks; Dd - R - FI - U - RI - F - DdI. Before running this algorithm, however, the edges must be even in position and not diagonally across from each other as in the previous steps.
