@PhoneRepairGuru I love how you are able to present information in such a concise way, I wish I had that talent! Here's the summary of what we found in our latest Parts Pairing Lab. 1.) FACE ID FIXED by parts pairing. This will work, but ONLY IF: A) It's an iPhone 12 series. B) The FaceID problem is missing/damaged flood illuminator and not true depth cam. C) You replace the flood illuminator TOGETHER WITH the OEM screen to which it is bound. A much smaller win than I thought in my first video. 2.) NO TRUE DEPTH camera pairing or function. It won't work. However, new ones are for sale from Apple on self service. So Apple *could* support this, but chooses not to. This poor practice is decidedly anti-consumer and anti-environment. In the US, this is worth a campaign to complain to the FTC. I'd love to help map out a campaign for that with you if you're interested. Apple does respond to public pressure. 3.) PARTS ARE PART-SETS. Some parts are programatically bound as serialized part sets---flood illuminator flex is tied to display ic. You have to replace the entire set to pair. This means the $15 damaged flood requires a $300 screen to use it 4.) For phone models earlier than iPhone 15--both LOST MODE and ICLOUD LOCK CAN PAIR. 5.) Only iPhone 12 and later are supported. No pairing for older phones with home button/touch ID, no iPad support even on iOS 18. Right to repair legislation does not back date to iPhone 11 even though they are getting iOS 18, so there was no pressure to include them. 6.) NO CHANGE FOR STOLEN PHONE PARTS. THEY STILL WORK. It's a misconception that anything here does anything to prevent stolen phone part selling. That's a mirage. Those parts will still FUNCTION same as they do now--they just can't PAIR. They already can't pair. There is NO CHANGE HERE. Keep up the good work! Jessa

As a regular user I feel like we’re heading for something that’s unequivocally one huge step forward from the baseline (no restrictions on swapping). We’re close to a situation where an iPhone has almost no value as a stolen item. Even the parts have little to no value. We also get a LOT of confidence for buying of second hand devices, where we can be more certain that none of the parts have been replaced with bad or even dangerous third party components. This is a HUGE benefit for the resale value of phones, which IMO is just as important as repairability for the long term life of a phone. It’s the difference between someone putting their old phone up for sale vs leaving it in the drawer as a backup phone. If we can have decent repairability on top of this it will be the best of both worlds. A huge step forward. All we need is a bit more pressure on Apple to make the swapping/calibration process even easier, and some better regulations requiring availability of all original parts at a fair price for a reasonable length of time. I know you would probably have loved guaranteed access to schematics and such as well.. I would too.. but honestly I feel like that’s not going to make much of a difference in the real world.

Now let's hope they come up with a solution for security biometrics like the face ID sensor. That one is trickier since you don't want someone to be able to hack your account and be able to disable or reset face ID.

4:11 Activation Lock is not the same thing as reporting a device lost or stolen. All Apple devices that have Find My enabled are automatically Activation Locked because Activation Lock is the feature that prevents stolen devices from being used in whole or now in part (pun in tended). The only reason this would be odd is if the two iPhones were signed into the same Apple Account. If they are, then it would not make sense because the part is locked to the account that its host iPhone is already using. Regardless, signing in to the Apple Account or signing out of the account on the original device is an easy fix, but if neither are possible or work, another way to resolve this is that you can put the part back in the original device (or in your case swap the motherboards back), make sure there are no errors or warnings, and then turn off Find My on both iPhones, repair them, and then sign back in.

I used to work on Iphones for insurance companies, If your having issues with the calibration it might have to do with "Find My Phone" turned on. We needed that to be turned off in order to do recalibrations for our customer devices. It really sucked but you might be able to try that. LiDAR is not a part that you could replace it in Apple Store or AASPs, when you have an issue with LiDAR sensor, a Rear System will be replaced (Which is a whole unit expect the display and the Camera) or Mid system for some models (which had a removable back glass). Which makes the LiDAR until now related to the motherboard and by the way, you can replace the camera only and that will not affect the repair. By the way, if a display was replaced for older model (like 11 Series for example), i believe that you should replaced the display with the Embedded ALS sensor in the upper side of the display. They’ve been improving repairability over the past few models. The irony that Android phones have been doing the opposite, especially Nothing.
@lol-ge9bhАй бұрын
What have android brand sbeen doing
@Big-Chungus21Ай бұрын
@@lol-ge9bh Design wise, making the phones harder to get into without breaking components inside of the phone. Some phones have several layered components / boards that are hard to take apart without breaking cables, I think it was ASUS’s ROG phone that took this to the extreme though. Nothings phones particularly are actually pretty hard to open as the lights and additional stuff on the back make it more complex and harder to take apart. I kind of hate Nothings approach to being “transparent” being to… literally make their phones transparent. Generally, Pixels, Samsungs, and Apple phones (maybe some others) are all pretty great though. Its just such a shame that alternatives have gradually fallen behind in quality, or don’t actually do anything different. Foldable phones are a little hard to repair but thats just down to how folding screens work.

Hello, congratulations, these are the useful videos! could you check if all this works only on the 15 or also on the older devices with ios18 (for example 11 pro)?

Just to be 100% clear, activation lock has nothing to do if the device was reported stolen. Activation Lock is when you logged into iPhone with your iCloud account it automatically associate the device with your iCloud, so anyone wants to reset it has to log out that iCloud account first aka deactivate the activation lock. This is the way to prevent thefts from stealing iPhone turn it off and take it apart sell parts.

Hi I just dropped my phone yesterday after 4 years of using it perfectly now this iPhone 11 screen is glitched(a cracked on the top which causes the whole screen to not work properly but can still do stuff), are non original screens good for the 11 or is the original screen price worth it ? Cause now it’s old
@ConnorTech01Ай бұрын
I wonder if you could calibrate aftermarket displays, batteries, etc from example Amazon? You should test that out and see what would happen.
@lvaItixАй бұрын
I have a question. Until now, I have always bought original Apple replacement parts like displays pulled from eBay, and it has always worked great. The only thing now is that there is no way to verify where the parts comes from and whether it is iCloud locked or not. Do you lose more functions if the replaced part is locked compared to not completing this finish process?
@tumo07Ай бұрын
i think the motherboard that the parts came with still signed in then it will warn the parts locked to owner. i think when you put phone in lost mode it is treated as loged out
@MrJr289Ай бұрын
It works excellent for me. I upgraded from the iPhone XR to a iPhone 12 Pro Max upon collecting the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The previous owner said that she changed the camera so was getting a camera not genuine message upon receiving the phone. I updated it to iOS 18 and Run the analyzer Parts genuine it came back as a genuine part and allow me to calibrate the camera. No more messages on the phone I was able even able to break her down on her price because of that problem. A big W 😅
@ChaydenWalkerSMChair27 күн бұрын
Would the camera calibration work with an iPhone without Lidar? (iPhone 16, 15, 14 13... the non pro models). If the camera calibration can be done with the normal iPhones as they don't have Lidar, then that means that they would be much easier to repair.
@BfixmxАй бұрын
So there's any chance to bypass the calibration camera process??
@emrullahtinkir1556Ай бұрын
Hi There, Could it be that because only One of the Phones Is Updated to IOS 18 some Parts (Like FaceID and the LiDAR sensor) don’t work on the Swapped Motherboard ? If you haven’t tested that yet i think it would be worth a shot. Hope my Idea is not completely useless :)
@wolfarixАй бұрын
It dose seem like beta issues. Like the phone wants to calibrate the lidar sensor but it glitches out. I think this deserves a revisit once iOS 18 is fully out and after Apple gets feedback and fixes some of the issues.
