hi, i removed the CPU heatsink and serviced the fan, applied new thermal paste etc. however the result is not that good. CPU temperature is still around 50 degree at idle, and around 60 degree when watching any youtube video, cpu fan almost running all the time. I was hoping after cleaning the heatsink would do a better job like when it was new, so that the fan does not need to kick in and operate (which is noisy) most of the time. what is the normal CPU temperature on your machine? is the fan operating often?

After cleaning the fan in my computer in October 2017, the results were significantly better than before. I don't think it was as quiet as when I bought it in 2010, but it's difficult to compare and remember such long times. In the meantime, the fan turns sometimes up very noisy, e.g. during Windows updates or Dropbox synchronization. It is still quite quiet today (May 2020) when idling or with office applications. Reported CPU temperature is 31 to 38°C (with CoreTemp V.1.15, setting -10K offset in the program). And this old notebook is still working well :-)

I've same resault arround 45-50*C at idle, tried even add second heatsink. Fan is fcking annoying youtube 60*C +. I tried to change fan to 'china' shit and it was even worse, so bought used one. And my results are not good at all :/ Even with locked 900mhz its annyoing. There is no way to reduce voltage to cpu :/

@@Postraszek Thank you for sharing your experience with us here. I think the thermal management of Sony's notebook is very worse, however you may try to use the tool CoreTemp and setting approx. -10 deg offset... this should lower down the fan noise at idle and is probably not critical for the CPU. I have to mention, that a second worse point with the notebook is the small capacity of the Li-ion battery pack. I replaced the original Sony VGP-BPS22 (3500mAh, 39Wh) some years ago with a China replica (4400mAh), but today the usable working time with the battery is very short again.
