Damn, I had no idea that the intonation when using the whammy bar was that precise that you can get exact intervals of 1 1/2, 1, and 1/2 steps on each of the strings. I have been playing for 30 years and have been using my ears all this time, having no fricking clue that I could set my tremolo up this precisely. You are amazing, thank you!

I had never noticed the tremmy changes different intervals depending on what string. Video was so straight forward and easy for anyone that understands theory. I learned more about trem bar and heck Beck intervallic ideology from this short video than anything I'd hoped for! Major respect man, thank you! Really nicely done. Although basses are my main instrument, i play a bit of guitar as well and love Jeff Beck's sound. I've got the Marshall's and strats and such but as you know, his sound is rooted in his technique. I think your analysis of his tremolo technique is really good information, with the emphasis on the "pitched up" notes having a predictable stopping point. Very nice, thanks----Ed.

Excellent vid and great playing. This technique is much more difficult than you make it look, but is nonetheless worth going for. No one will probably do it (or any guitar playing) as well as JB, but there is much value in going on the journey even if the end is a bit shy of the perfect destination.

Some great technique info here Marbin, Jeff Beck is a master of his genre. I always used to think as a kid that Jeff Becks music always sounded like an 80's cop show music. Low and behold it turns out that Jan Hammer, Jeff's keyboard/synth was played by none other than that of Jan Hammer the guy who wrote and performed the theme tune to Miami Vice. Jeff Beck is a player who i consider an influence but i also have others. I think we have been so blessed to have all this great music left to us but i don't want to sound like any of them, i want my/our soud to be a sound that our band were responsible for. The thing that is hard to muster these days is originality.

His technique is sublime perfected over a lifetime. His playing is always incredibly melodic even when gained out. It's an ever evolving conversation and most launch in, or umm and err. Every line has something to say and conveys considerable emotive nuance. His knowledge of the guitar is so much more than fretboard familiarity. No doubt some try to emulate elements of his aresenal of technique, but even though I could own and drive a car for my entire adult life, it wouldn't qualify me for Formula 1. At best, some approach imitative or seem like competent forgery, but Jeff Beck's mastery can't be attained or even truly explained as imitation attests.

Excellent video. I've tried a few times to set my guitar up and can't figure out how to get the screws right, is it pretty straightforward or do you have to stagger the lower strings to the higher strings in a diagonal pattern with the screws holding the plate to the body? Two quick questions about the trem... is it a custom trem bar, and o you use all the springs in the trem, or do you remove some to get it more spongey?

Very nice, great lesson. One of best guitar players for my taste. I have Blues Junior 4 amp with lovely spring reverb and i wonder what pedals should i buy first to get that kind of sound? Tube Screamer/OD i guess would be better first?

I checked and it is really good pedal, i need just that, cuz i have only one clean channel and even if i crank volume to 12 and master pretty high, i am still missing some overdrive :D I have managed to get the same sound on old Peavey Vypyr 30(Blue Marvel 12 speaker). I just set it to fender twin amp on red channel with very little gain, put Tube Screamer on and reverb halfway and volume on guitar closed a little , closed tone knob a little and this is it. And fingers and tremolo. Amazing sound. I played violin when i was young and i love guitar sound which is little similar to violin :)

​@@nzprojects - I came across your comment and wanted to tell you what I use. I am OLD and have been doing this stuff since the 70's. I also love Jeff Beck and he has been a huge influence on my playing since day one. My Marshalls, Fender Twins and the like are all too big and powerful to enjoy at home for the most part. You have to crank them up too loud to get good tone. I bought this inexpensive little Bugera G5 Tube amp head for a couple hundred bucks. It has a switch to attenuate from 5 watts to 1 watt and then down to 1/10 of a watt. Believe it or not the 1/10 watt (or 1 watt) setting through a 12 inch speaker sound like my 50 watt Marshall on full gain but at VERY low volume that won't piss off your neighbors. I get great Jeff Beck tones as well as "Little Wing", authentic Hendrix tones, etc. It's been very versatile for me. I own a variety of vintage guitars (still have my '61 Strat from when I was a kid) but also play my newer PRS Custom Core guitars through the little Bugera with great result. If you run it at 5 watts through a couple of 12's or even a 4-12 Marshall cab it has plenty of balls when you jam with your friends or play a small gig. I only wish that the reviews I see on KZbin demoed it on styles other than Metal. There may be more videos out there but you might want to check it out. These low watt tube amps are a life saver. When I was young we didn't even have a gain knob on these amps. If you wanted it to sound like it was on 10... it had to be on 10. "I'm sorry, what did you say???" :) By the way, I have all sorts of pedals and seldom use them anymore unless I need the squeals and long, controlled harmonics. Like our friend in the video, going straight into the amp is perfect for this Beck tone as he so beautifully demonstrats. I should add that this player is among the best I've heard for this particular sound. I always thought that Michael Casswell (RIP) was the only guy to really nail this tone & style but now we have this amazing great player Dani who is so generously sharing his talent and tips. I only wish that he lived next door.

Helo friend! I have i great doubt!!! How does Jeff sound the harmonic so much??? Is it some pedal? In the music Where were you e Somewhere over the rainbow. Specially the harmonic in the 3º fret. I did that with a compressor really high but comes with to much noise.

There is a moment at the very end of 'Sleepwalk' Live at Ronnie Scott's, when Jeff Beck plays a few harmonic notes with a slide..... and he doesn't even pick the strings! It's a mystery to me how he does it! I can play the notes, in my own way, mainly with harmonics... but I just cannot figure Beck's way out. By the way, the best way for me to get nice harmonics is to barely touch the string and move that finger off right after plucking. Plus volume and some gain are important

There's a bent note in "You Never Know" around 3.45 with a delay and I can't seem to get the right setting to sound like that. It's a thing that Santana and SRV have done as well.

Not helpful! This stuff regarding the trem is easy to figure out and has been widely written about. What remains a mystery is how you get that tone from a strat bridge pickup. WHY DIDNT YOU TALK ABOUT THAT!!?? Come on!!!!
