To be truly self realized in your guitar playing to the point where every microtonal inflection is perfectly in place and the dynamics and energy have a punch like a human voice, and to be able to MAINTAIN that excellence over the decades is truly something special. Jeff is an absolutely outstanding artist and he is right up at the top of that mountain of inspiration for the rest of us.

@Juan Pérez Hendrix...well, he might still have been better than Beck today, but he died 50 years ago and Beck is better today than Hendrix was then. Hendrix had a giant potential, but so had Page and Clapton and they both stopped evolving in the late 70-es/early 80-es. Drug abuse is not such a good idea if you want to make the most of your talent.

Yeah because Jeff never used any drugs or alcohol, sure. The difference between him and Page and EC is that Jeff keeps on innovating and improving and expanding. Surviving and taking care of yourself and working tirelessly at your craft all have value. He is Jimi’s rightful heir, and those two are certainly unsurpassed-and probably unmatched.

If there ever was, or is, a true KING OF KINGS of electric guitar players, Jeff Beck would be it. I love Vai, Satch, Petrucci, Gilbert, all of them. But, I've never heard anyone make a guitar sound like Jeff Beck can. Mindblowing.
@lucaandre7235 жыл бұрын
I agree But i wouldnt consider him a better player. He is just different. Vai,gilbert,petrucci, satch, are all really different, and its hard to work so much zo get to the speeds that these guys are doing. All of them are different but grat sounding players. Jeff wouldnt have a chance in terms of speed, but how could jeff be beaten? It is absolutley impossible to play like him. He is kinda sloppy, but everything he plays just sounds 101% perfect, and you can ignore little mistakes in his playing, because they are what makes him sound that incrediblr

(In my view) Clapton and Page pale in comparison. Mr. Beck is a continual fountain of creativity. His lyricism is unsurpassed. The others burned out after their moment of innovation while Mr. Beck keeps the flame alive. No disrespect to the others but its like Paul McCartney: the artistry just keeps coming. This man will die a student of his art.

@@kevindonnelly761this is absolutely ridiculous. You can chdck it Word by word: secret police gig, when jeff was interviewed about that , i quote "IN the 60,s, Eric and I play the same (blues-rock)...and he was better" it,s a literal quotatation. In the 60,s , even being 1 year younger, Clapton was way ahead of any other british guitarist, in any way, shape or form. The beano 1966 was 100 times more influential than the music of the Yardbirds, which PALED compared. The status in the 60,s was genuine, there was no marketing the way it is today, and if people got the respect was because they truly deserved it. Cream , Blind Faith or the Dominoes had no equal. In the 70,s, each guitarist took a personal dirección and EC focus on singing, something impossible for many players, and on writing his kindofdylan approach, and ... But let,s be serious about the 60,s, pleaseee

Jeff is the original 'Guitar Hero" -- he is the model going back to the Yardbirds. What a humble and kind and funny person he seems -- impish, y'know? Jimi told Chas he would go to England with him on one condition. That he get to meet Jeff and Eric. Jeff awoke one morning to have his girl tell him he had to see this amazing(!?) guitarist over from America. He thought that was a bit demoralizing. But he went and said that it was like an earthquake. As he was leaving the club , Pete Townsend was walking in -- he said,"he's doing all our stuff, mate..." Jeff says that he thought he was out of a job. They became fast and true friends, of course. One reason he has given for stopping recording and touring back in the mid-80's was that he STILL missed Jimi and he was tired of soldiering on, alone. He said that HE had no one to look up to really.... Jeff has been relentless - tireless - in running thru every door Jimi had opened and even found some ones on his own. Now he is the Penultimate Artist -- or Musical Adventurer as he likes to call himself -- not a guitarist. You can hear his love for Jimi all over the place -- like the final notes of 'God Save The Queen"at Wembley 2010. Or all the performances of "Little Wing" that start out like "Hey Joe". Oh, the magic that happens between those ears! Happy 70th, Jeff and a very many more! Blessings

It's hard to convey the feeling and the magic that these guitars had for me as a kid in the 60s. My first guitar was a "Silvertone" that came with a farty little tube amp that in my mind's eye across the decades looked something like a little suitcase or a compact little record player we used to play our "45s" on. (google it)Anyway I fought this little beast for a few years and learned how to play "Down on the Corner" and I think "Inagaddadavida" (In the Garden of Eden)I didn't get to actually touch a real Stratocaster until early 1971 and just the beautiful sculpted shape and balance of the thing was a revelation. Then the guy plugged it in for me (can't remember the amp but it was LOUD with plenty of TREBLE heh heh)and as I strummed a big warm glistening bar chord I was shaking like a leaf.I felt like the electricity was coursing through my system as if I'd been plugged into the amp first and then the strat was plugged into me! Of course from that day I was hopelessly hooked and have been playing ever since.Through out the years Beck and a handful of others (the usual suspects)have kept me inspired and for that Jeff I thank you with all my heart (full of) soul...

@PoeticJustice05 Hendrix' greatness can't be confirmed by anyone's opinion, even someone as cool as Beck. The simple way to confirm it is to listen to his records, especially side by side with other rockers from his era. People forget how many of his songs represented a total sonic revolution. Sounds that are standard today started with him, and were revolutionary then.

i think these are nonsense question: who is better? Hendrix, Beck? useful for chats and nothing more. Beck is one of a kind and not comparable, Hendrix was another. If you look in detail you see that Beck has always been near to jazz rock, pure melodies and solid technique, plus having an unpredictabilty that you can ear in no other. You never know exactly where he goes, also the frets and the strings don't know it, and that's what make Beck a genius not comparable, and a pleasure to hear.
