John Fruciante is one of the greatest guitar player....he playing is embued with emotions and context. If all of humanity existance needs to be justified, we can do with the the last 28 sec of Scar Tissue...the solo is how a man transcended mortal realm and reached the metaphysical. @@andrewcruz7595 a reverse pickup switch does nothing to affect the tonality of a guitars pickup sound and or output, just means they wired it backwards. john didn't have a reversed pickup switch, the stratocaster used in the video did.

Most people think the guitar you use is sooo important. I'll tell you, the sound is at least 95% made of your amp and the pickups your put on your guitar. Buy a 200 euros Harley Benton, put some P90 pickups on it... and spend the rest of your budget on a nice tube amp and some pedals depending on your style. In term of sound quality you won't feel the difference. And it will sound much better than a 800 euros Fender on a shitty amp.

@YUNGMOOD! John did use a DS1 in the californication era, but obviously mode 1 on a ds-2 is the tinnier ds-1 sound if it's wanted. so the DS-1 isn't very versatile for the bulk of John's music of course 😂

The wet sand solo is actually the Boss DS-2 with a light overdrive for your boost. Not I don’t know what’s with the random configuration they showed.

Add all the pedals you want, but John’s “signature sound” is just his technique paired with a Stratocaster on the verge of break-up. That’s his best stuff.

John never uses a DS-1, he used it with his White Falcon and Fender Showman for the breakdown/bridge of Otherside live (but not in the studio). Around the World didn’t even have a dirt pedal and wah on it, he bi-amped a Silver Jubilee and a Super Bass cranked with a Fender Jaguar and just changed the switches on the guitar for the chorus.

Frusciante’s secret is Boss CE-1 that has an amp inside. Turn all the knobs on your DS-2 and MUFF and control the volume with CE-1.

Could you guys or someone do a comparison of what that clean tone would sound like with and without the Silver Jubilee pedal? I've considered buying one to try and color my Laney Cub 12R into more Jube territory, but this video is literally the only one I've seen using this pedal for a Frusciante-style clean tone and not playing hella distorted GNR riffs with Les Pauls and other humbuckers.

You can get a Vox V847 wah pedal That 'll do the trick because Ibanez wah pedals are hard to get not on reverb but people have put in the comments saying That it didn't work yea because to you have to Do a bit of tweeking with it and that rubber stuff

I had a friend that could get Frusciante's tone with a Squier with a SD JB in the bridge into a Crybaby running into a Boss Ds-2 into Marshall solid state amp. It was spot on I shit you not.

I feel like the tone at 0:39 is pretty biting (not in a bad way) for the strat being set to the neck position, does the MXR contribute that much to the tone/EQ?

That pickup selector is actually wired in reverse. So your ears were not deceiving you, that is actually the bridge pickup being played.

Matt Davis I can tell you all the pedals he uses. Big muff Dihitech whammy Mxr microamp Octave pedal sometimes Thats it. It's best to run them through some kind of fender amp with a bit of reverb. He barely uses the octave pedal, only on a fee songs I can think of.

PCMESS That was his set-up with the WS. He uses other pedals with the DW, the Raconteurs, and his solo stuff. He uses a completely different rig for every project.
