All of this is great advice. I heard one chef recommend, after the sous vide, that you put the steak in the refrigerator for 10 minutes so that you can sear it longer and get a better crust.

With a hunk of steak you need to salt the crap out of it. Fresh ground pepper. And garlic powder. Before you put it in your hot cast iron pan make sure it is as dry as you can get the steak smear a light coating of mayo on the steak, and have half stick butter and some oil smoking in the pan about 20 to 30 seconds flip the steak. 20 second flip again. Till it is as seared as you like it.. No need for it to rest..
