Grew up with my family making sure we speak English first, and the only Tongan we learned was to do the pu'is around the house. I have a deep desire to learn Tongan to be more connected with my family and ancestors and keep our culture so I can teach my kids one day! Malo :3

Thank you for this video. I am half Tongan and half Māori , my father is full tongan but we were never taught Tongan growing up. I am trying to learn Tongan as I find it very important to know my roots and I also want to teach my kids how to speak Tongan. This has helped so much , Malo auptio.

I’m so happy you are making these videos! I will be watching! There are no other videos out there to help me learn the language. My parents are full Tongan from Tonga however never raised me to speak it. I know a bit but I want to learn how to fully speak it!

Thank you so much for this ! What year did you go to BYUH? I was there from 2003 - 2006. My degree was in social work. Now I'm a social worker in Utah doing home health and hospice. Fantastic work and i meet so many lovely people. Some of the families i meet are Tongan. Maybe because of my time in Hawaii (and definitely because of my work), but I want to better understand Tongan culture. So thanks again!

We live in a ward in Missouri in which many Tongan families are moving into. We love these Brothers and Sisters and we want to all remain in the same ward. I will learn Tongan so we can worship together and not create a Palengi ward vs a Tongan ward. Malo!

My foreman and his brother at work are Tongan, they immigrated to the U.S. with their family when they were teenagers. I’m trying to learn some Tongan so I can go to Faikava with them and get to know them and their culture better! It would be cool to be able to converse in their native language. Malo ‘aupito, toko!

Nice one Ray! Where do these 4 pillars come from?
@journeybeyondthehorizon93253 жыл бұрын
Malo Brother. The Four Core Values and pillars of ‘being a Tongan’. It was originally commenced by King George Tupou 1 when he was converted to the Christian Church in the 19th Century and he taught his people the values of 1.Respect, 2. Humility, 3. Sharing/Cooperation, 4.Loyalty, because Tonga always had wars and feuds between Clans, Villages, inter-islands back then. So his mission was to unify all the islands and convert Tonga to Christianity. Malo Tokoua 🙏
