That last theme was also what I did my termagants in as well, however I'm new and got the ultimate starter set and I'm not sure to paint the bigger mini's like the Psychophage. Maybe there's a suggestion on what colors to use on the weird looking vents on it's belly?

I think the 3rd one before the Black Templar but with the Screamer Pink is my favourite. I like the first but I’m a bit sick of red as a Khorne Daemon player.

100% agree. I paint blood angels and want something other than red with my tyranids. Like the first a lot but am leaning towards that last one. What ever one i choose that ratling grime will feature. Never knew how good that colour was.

I tried to replicate on bigger nids and it didn't come out to great for me😢. It was the contrast paint on the bigger armour plates and big patches of skin like tails ect, it's the contrast paint, for me it just looks awful on larger areas and I can never get a good finish like on your perfect examples

Have come back to this over and over now that Hive Fleet Typhon has been fully revealed. Making small tweaks to your scheme by adding the Volupus pink to the back of the head too but generally this has been so helpful

3rd is my favorite. I love greys and various bright colours that go with all the awesome shades of greay. So im always partial to those types of schemes. But theyre all well done. 3rd for sure bc you can use bright green for venom or goo or whatever and that always looks cool on the nids

Of the previewed ones, the bottom one with purple carapace and dark chitin. But I think I'd go with darker purple carapace, and blue tone for the skin over purple. And for nr 3, agreed not sold on swapping carapace-chitinskin colours between creature & gun. That might work better for big models, maaaybe. Of the ones you did, the first one has an amazing deep red tone for the skin. Just for that, it's my favorite. I think it would look very menacing. It's also close to Behemoth if you adjust the carapace; the red tone would be fantastic for Behemoth imo. And you can still add details, like a cyan-blue tongue, or a light-green tongue, and the openings on the legs & arms etc, if one wants to. Very quickly yet well done! As for army paint schemes, I'm thinking a yellow-green skin has potential. Then I don't know about the carapace; copper-y, dark green, a deep purple... I think tyranids are an army where one can get away with not using any of the 'primary' colors nor black/white.

Don't ask me to choose! This video does support my long held position that Tyranids are some of the most beginner friendly models for painting. They take to washes/Contrast and drybrushing so well. Also, for future reference "chitin" is pronounced "kai-tn." The fact no one else had mentioned this in comments, suggests a lot of people don't know... I was even second guessing myself mentioning this.

I like the new red one :) Though if I ever did an army of my own I would probably copy a scheme I saw in a battle report from Games Night, part of the Yogscast, about 2 years ago. Underside is a nice dirty red brown while the carapace is a dirty yellow green. Pretty nice contrasting colors that looked great together.

Um, so, yeah, things kinda escalated after watching this, and I have a bought and primed a huge number tryanids...really really hoping you will be kind enough to show us how to up the standard of the 3rd scheme for big bugs...partly because it's only the big ones you can safely buy; the troops are getting replaced. Please help...things like what colour would you use for adding a contrast layer under rach bit of chichin (like on scheme 1 where you reinsert the red contrats paint)...what colour would you do for the wings of a tryranid on scheme 3? Some of the big bugs have sacks and organic growths as a aditional colour, what would you do for that too? Sorry for being so demanding but you have awoken need with such an amazing video!

That’s a great question and it’s often asked so you’re not alone at all! I started with the little infantry guy to get an idea of how to do the schemes faster but I will be adding the larger models in a playlist as well, so you’ll see one of the schemes applied in different levels depending on the size of the model. I do add more detail to larger models, they’re the ones everyone will look at most on the table anyway! Stay tuned for more videos soon!

Second and third one are my favorites (even just stopping after the basic Contrast paints or with just the drybrushing follow up), but the first looks almost the easiest to paint for a "horde" army like the Tyranids. I'll stick with my own Contrast based Tiamat Fleet scheme, though, can't let the previous models done for KT go to waste.

I kept it as simple as possible because I wanted a recipe that I would be happy to apply to a horde of gaunts, I left of some elements that I would include in bigger models but I think they’re pretty close for the infantry level models at least!

Edit: what color do you recommend to keep it looking good for the musculature details (those sort of visible crevices) and such. I'm referring to the first schema example.

The red one is great, but my ratling grime + Bloodshade comes out way more brown then grey black in your vid, so strange.

That is strange. Maybe give them a good shake and stir. Some pigment mite be stuck to the bottom of then pot.
