Great useful information, I will give your system a try. Thank you Greg.

you mentioned editing in clusters/batches, can't agree enough here. For certain shoots, this can be really helpful/efficient. If i'm editing a long shoot with multiple cameras & lenses, i usually avoid culling entire collection chronologically A-Z. Creates a lot of jumping around and kinda breaks my concentration. Lot more pleasant and efficient workflow to sort by each lens for culling, for me at least. just wanted to add this note to continue the convo here, small detail but can really be helpful when you've got 1000s of images to get thru imo.

It's always interesting seeing how others edit photos. I use colors on an initial review, green for good, yellow for So, So, Red for Garbage an the rest are left with no color. Then after using AI or Photoshop I will color an image purple to show it's a generated second image. I like the way you use the Star System and the Filter, definitely going to try that. Good stuff, Thanks 👍👍😎

Awesome! I have all these pictures that I need to process still from holidays past that I can crank out this weekend. Now with how fast this workflow is, no one will heckle me this Xmas when I show up with the camera and still have yet to process last year's pics. You rock Greg!

Thanks for sharing those editing shortcuts Greg. I use something very similar and I also use some color coding when I get to the fine end of the edit process. I hope you enjoy South Australia (I'm from Sydney Australia). That region of South Australia is vast, hope you have a great time there. Just a heads up.... IT WILL BE HOT!

Good ideas, thanks. I do use an "x" for photos I know I will never use - severely out of focus, half the animal cutoff etc.

Hi Greg, Happy Crimble and a Happy and Healthy 2025 to you and yours. Thank you for the vids this year - you have worked hard to develop your channel and it is now brill. I hope your numbers grow steadily now. Apropos editing. I use ACDSee Ultimate. The big benefit for me is that I do not use a programme catalogue, rather I simply use Windows' folder system. So there is no importing / exporting phaff, as there is with Adobe. As regards batch-editing, I do not do that (my software can but I choose not to). Nor do I build a list by elimination. Rather, I view the shoot (which sometimes goes to 2,000 photos a day) and select those photos I think deserve developing on a one-by-one basis. I then spend minutes, hours, days developing each image I choose - whatever it takes. Now, clearly, this is useless for a professional wedding, portrait or wildlife togger because too few images are developed in too much time. But I do now have a catalogue of about 1,500 images from the million+ I have taken over the last few years. And I do re-visit old shoots to select more images for developing (plus any current ones). So I am not overwhelmed because I am not looking to develop 100-200 per safari but rather some per month. I once developed ten images in two days - a real record for me. But I have also spent almost a week working on one image. No wonder I cannot make it pay commercially but I think the final images are the best I can personally do. All the best now. Cheers.

I have recently come back from Botswana and literally took several thousand images a day with my Sony A9iii. Rather than importing all to Lightroom I did my initial selection in Fast Raw viewer. In that it is possible to just press the forward arrow and go through like a video and select the images I like best. I then one star. Those images I then import into Lightroom cc which will then put them in my Adobe Cloud and make available back at my desk in Lightroom Classic, and even on my iPhone and iPad to edit as I have time. That means they are super secure in multiple places. I found I only selected and imported less than 1% of images I took. The rest just stay on a 4TB SSD so I can go back to later, but probably never will, as will have moved onto another trip first. I too Auto edit in Lightroom as a starting point, but then later extensively edit using masks.

Use a similar approach Greg, utilising a combination of stars and colour ratings somincan track an image from start to finish. Only use lightroom as a repository though but the concept is similar to yours.

Hi Greg, What are the best export settings for a whole batch of photos? And how to tackle exporting when planning to use your photos for different purposes? For example, one should consider specific guidelines when exporting images for Instagram as opposed to other uses.

@@johnandjuliewadley4776 I guess it’s based mostly on comfort and experience. I can use Lr as well but not as quickly. Kinda like different video editing apps.

Use a similar approach but with P & X in the 1st filter step. Am experimenting with smart collections too. Good tip about using mass Auto edit - can you add that to an import preset?
