No Commentary Version: • [No Commentary] FFX HD...
Route Script: docs.google.co...
This video is a breakdown on the route for a no mix speedrun for FFX HD Remaster. It includes everything the player must do in the route from the very first fight to the last. All the gameplay was recorded in segments from loading many different save files and basically stitching it all together. So there are going to be small inconsistencies throughout the video, like exact items in the inventory and exact weapon and armor drops from boss fights (like how Oblitzerator dropped a Thunder Ball, but I'm using a Lightning Steel that I got from Oblitzerator.) So it's not really a single run condensed down, but importantly, the route shown works.
My commentary for the video is beginner friendly and was written to be thorough and accessible to everyone. So even if you aren't familiar with FFX, it's easy to understand the route and know how and why it works. This is the first time that I've ever written a script for recording commentary. I chose to write one because I realized that there were so many interesting things to cover throughout the video, and it was hard to remember everything I wanted to talk about without the commentary falling behind. Also the process of covering every aspect that there was led to me find a few routing errors actually, and I was thankful I realized them and didn't release a route that was inconsistent. I also released a no commentary version of the video for those that have that preference.
So the original PS2 no mix run that this route is based on is no longer available to watch on speedrun(dot)com. As of this video's publishing, that category has been removed from the leaderboards entirely (I'm assuming due to no activity or interest.) So I don't know who ran this category originally, and I couldn't find the original run anywhere else. I would have liked to thank them in some capacity. So whoever you are, know that this video would not have been possible without your original run, and if you happen to find this video, I hope you enjoy.
So I want to say that, although I'm so very proud of making this video, I actually have no plans to do speedruns of it, nor have I even done an actual run myself. This project started about 4 years ago, and at that time, I definitely was gonna do runs. But at this time, I'm deciding to release the video and move on. Lately, I've taken an interest in challenge runs, and I'm wanting to make more videos pertaining to that. I would even say that this video was actually more about the challenge of coming up with the route than making it for the purposes to learn how to speedrun it. That being said, I encourage anyone who's interested to run this category to do so! I really think it's a super fun route that has a lot of interesting differences from other categories that change up the pacing for a lot of the fights. If anyone does decide to give this run a go, let me know! I'd love to watch someone do runs of this! And who knows, maybe someday in the future I'll do a run or two.
I wanna give a shoutout to a few awesome people for the darn heck of it:
Davesterio for being a great dude. I would watch his FFX speedruns while lurking in his chat and he inspired me to run the game myself.
Keeanolookalike for hanging out in my chat while I was doing any% speedruns. It's been a while, but I hope you are doing well!
CarcinogenSDA for continuing to be my #1 inspiration to make cool awesome content that other nerds like myself can enjoy. Keep on keepin' on my dude!
Much love, everyone ♥♥♥
