We took a quick weekend trip up to Portland Maine to explore a wonderful part of the New England territory. We ate some delicious and fresh lobster rolls, visit the Portland Museum of Art, explored the downtown area, and plenty more
When we were there it was a little cloudy and rained a little but that didn't stop us from having fun and enjoying the best of this city!
On day 1 we went to Eventide Oyster Co. Their lobster rolls are unique in that they come in the Asian-inspired bun with a nice butter sauce. It might not look like it, but the lobster roll was packed out with lobster meat. What surprised us was definitely their clam chowder which had seaweed, potatoes, bacon, and large chunks of clams. It was incredibly fresh and had an umami flavor to it which threw us off but it was great! We can't stop raving about this spot. But be sure to order online prior unless you like to wait an hour for a table.
We then head to the Portland Head Lighthouse, which is known to be the most photographed lighthouse in America! But after spending some time there we could definitely see why that is. No matter what angle you photograph from, you'll always get a great shot of the lighthouse.
Right by the lighthouse is another famous lobster roll stand called Bite Into Maine which offers a more traditional lobster roll along with additional unique flavors. We opted for the traditional Maine lobster roll and the picnic-style lobster roll. With these, there was a pile of massive chunks of lobster which surprised us. Their lobster rolls were perfectly creamy and with the added lemon juice you get a nice freshness and tang to the roll! Definitely, a must when in Portland!
We end our day exploring Downtown Portland and checking out the cute shops and soaking in the New England culture. It was such a great way to end the day and walk off all the lobster we ate throughout the day.
Day 2 started early. We had booked a morning trip with the Portland Schooner. They are a sailing company that offers sailing rides throughout the day on their boats. It was incredibly fun. The day we went, the weather was a little less than ideal. But we made the most of it and had a great time. It was cool to see them hoist the sail and take us around the coast of Portland.
Afterward, we head over to the highly-rated Holy Donut which is special because their donuts have potatoes in them! So interesting. When we had arrived, there was a long line to get it. We waited for about 20 mins and were finally let in. They offer some seasonal flavors that are all incredibly good. We bought half a dozen of assorted flavors and can't stop thinking about them. We went back a second time on our trip they were that good!
After getting our donuts we wanted to go somewhere indoors and what better way to spend a day indoors than in a museum, so we went to the Portland Museum of Art. A wonderful museum that houses a bunch of different pieces from different eras. We spent the remainder of the day here and had a wonderful time!
