I fell in love with glazing when I was 11yrs. old. I am 67... you'd think I would have figured out straining my glaze all on my own, but no. I learned it from you all the while feeling so silly... thanks!

I used this tutorial as a reminder of sponging which I haven't done in years. Together with your tutorial on bubble glazing I'm using these techniques to do Outer Space scenes on commercially poured bisque in moon and/or sun shapes. It's going to be a fun project, I think. Thanks for your help!

Hi I wanted to know is the glaze you used in this video the same as underglaze paint? Or is it a different product?
@PotteryCrafters

Good question, Anne. I used Amaco Glaze instead of underglaze for this video. In case you haven't seen it here is the link for you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqPZm4l_odlod5Y 😊

I will get this little mixer ! Assuming this was done on fired clay . Firing cone 5 ? I 've heard of potters liking this better than cone 6 ..But I do not know the difference ..so open to hear other's knowledge on this 😊
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 5 ай бұрын
That is a great question. I always fired to cone 5 until the tech at Skutt told me it's better to fire to cone 5 and put a 10 to 20 minute hold on at the end to help with healing any pinholes and making sure the temperature of the kiln is even throughout. Do not go past 20 minute hold because it is equal to a cone 6 firing. I do 10 minute hold for sable glazes and 20 for flowing glazes to get the glaze to flow more. Happy glazing 💖

Hello Marie again I need some advice. Can I sponge glaze with clear glaze on a piece that was made with underglaze for the edge of my piece and then dip it all in the clear glaze Thanks again
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, I would recommend carefully brushing the glaze on because the sponge can give you an uneven coat and you may end up with white patches from the glaze being too thick. 😊

Hello:-) I am a beginner. May I ask is base coat the same thing as any glazes-except it should not be flocking during firing. Can I use under glaze as the base coat? Thank you :-)

@@PotteryCrafters Thank you very much for your kind advise. I had hand made 2 medium size oval dishes and bisque fired by the studio. Now I have a bit of issue with glazing because on the 1st time, I had 2 different glaze; a earthen glaze and a stoneware glaze on the same dish which i later realized and gave it a quick wash. The 2nd time, the 2 stoneware glazes were too thick, hence I wash it down a again. I'm worrying if the bisque ware is able to endure 3rd time glazing. But I have to as I am not satisfied with the uneven glazing performance. Can you advise on this and also the under side glazing as my dish has no foot rim, please? Thank you :-)
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 3 жыл бұрын
Very good question. You can glaze and wash it off many times, just make sure you give your pottery time to dry before glazing again. You can apply underglaze to the bottom, but not too think because the little bit of frit in the underglaze will stick to your kiln shelf. I have never had that happen (yet). Just make sure no glaze is on the bottom of your pottery or it will stick to the kiln shelf. Not sure which of my videos you have seen. You can go to my KZbin channel And check out the list of videos that may help. There is the link for you. kzbin.infovideos 😊

Lovely and inspiring as usual, Marie! Thanks again for all you do, both on your channel and your website. SUPER helpful information. And, I Love all the new little extras in your videos, too. Question: Do you mostly fire at Cone 5? Do you ever fire at Cone 6 and if so, under what circumstances? Just curious.

You are so welcome! Thank you MaryJean. 💖 I always fire Cone 5 but sometimes do a 5-minute hold. I should try cone 6 but so far I have been happy with my results at cone 5. 😀
