Chris, I am a newb, and I am learning tons of information watching your excellent videos. I really appreciate them, THANKS VERY MUCH. I am wondering, what is the different depth calculation if you are using a weighted steel or copper line with a diver, compared to the published diver depth chart for mono or braid. Thank you.

No need to run weighted line with divers wire will get you the deepest braid is a good choice but the sea fleas love braid mono I wouldn't use unless your running a smaller diver wont get the depth with mono
@lamarerdman12372 жыл бұрын
@@tylerheinrich3717 So, the stretch of mono is poor for divers, the fleas like braid, how can you run divers? Does using a heavy braid, work any better with sea fleas?

Lamar I’d say if you’re just starting out running 65 pound braid on your divers is a good starting point. As you get further into the sport you may want to upgrade to wire divers. Either one will catch fish and there is a definite learning curve to running wire divers. The best advice is to learn as much as you can from KZbin and take a charter with a good boat and watch and ask questions.

@@tangledtacklefishing Thanks. I did buy some 65 pound braid, but I am always looking for the best solution to start with. Really enjoy the videos.

How much for a 300 weighted steel all spooled? Rod not necessary, just the reel

Not sure off the top of my head. Call the shop at 231-887-4242 and they will get you hooked up.

Penn Squall II 50LW is a fine reel for copper or weighted steel. You obviously are pushing what you have for sale.

I don’t have anything for sale. I don’t even work at the shop.

Hi Chris, I've a question on using flasher fly tournament rigs which are routinely used on weighted steel. I've come to this question after studying various KZbinr's excellent videos. Seems the flasher fly leader commonly described as a "tournament rig" in the KZbin community sports a treble hook a single hook. As a newbie to salmon trolling, it strikes me that having a single hook trailing a treble hook would be more likely to result in unshakeable hook ups than when the treble hook trails. Can you please share your thoughts on this? Thank you Chris!

That’s an interesting observation for sure. I think most are done the way they are is because that’s the way they’ve always been. Also the octopus hook is great at hooking and keeping fish so id think the thought behind would be to have that as the first contact. But I’d recommend trying some different methods. There are no rules to this.

Awesome video Chris. You mentioned 180 feet of mono backing. I assume you meant yards?

Is there any difference between Torpedo and Bloodrun weighted steel?
@tangledtacklefishing2 жыл бұрын
Color for sure. Torpedo is much darker than the other.

What are your thoughts on the new Shimano Tekota 800s that were just released for wire use? The new one has a 3.9 gear ratio where the old one was a 4.2.
@tangledtacklefishing2 жыл бұрын
Tekotas are typically a solid reel. I’m sure they are still in that class. I’d like a little faster ratio for divers but it should still do the job. But for that price tag I’d go with the Daiwa Saltist. Some of the best I’ve ever used.
