2. NYstateofmyne of Instagram and Facebook
These are shops I personally recommend because I have shopped there, but many shops carry genuine Charoite!

Firstly a little clarification: Fluorite is a 4 on the mohs scale of hardness, it is actually the very stone used to represent a hardness of 4 on the scale to be specific. Tiffany stone however is considerably harder with a mohs hardness of 5-5½. Also, Charoite: Much like the other rocks in this video, charoite is often found with a mixture of numerous minerals, thus, the presence of white, orange, or, even green crystals within the rock are not uncommon, the black minerals most often associated with charoite are in fact aegerine and augite although technically aegerine is a very very dark green that looks almost black, quartz and feldspars are also present in many specimens, there are in fact about a dozen different minerals found associated with charoite, thus, there are many cases where charoite may not resemble the "textbook" appearance of black/purple. Commercially speaking though; the textbook black/purple material with strong chatoyancy is considered to be higher grade material than material with a less uniform appearance. Personally my favourite charoite specimens have little, or, no black, but, instead are purple/green-"charoite/pectolite" and purple/orange-"charoite/steacyite". The presence of these other minerals lend to a different overall look in the material, thus, some people would not instantly recognise them as charoite. My advice for identifying charoite would be to have a browse through the photos on the mindat website for charoite, after familiarising oneself with the images; there should be very little chance of confusion with other rocks/minerals. The mindat website whilst being highly scientific and loaded with plenty of info irrelevant to most people, is quite easy to navigate on a phone, it's always there for when you find yourself tempted to buy something you're otherwise unfamiliar with.

Thank you for talking about charoite vs fluorite! For my birthday last May I really wanted a charoite piece (purple is my favorite color + I love black and idk, I just really vibe with it?) so I went on Etsy, and I kept seeing those fluorite crystals when I searched for charoite, to where at first I was confused and thought ‘Maybe I’m wrong and it’s called something else?’ I then google searched charoite a bunch and confirmed that I was indeed looking for charoite. So I continued back on Etsy, and I got frustrated at how many non-charoite looking crystals were labeled as that. I was like, ‘these are obviously different types of stone how could they not catch that?’ But eventually I was able to find a good priced charoite sphere and it’s so beautiful. It has a bunch of black spotting all over it and the purple swirls are absolutely perfect. I even love the 2 brown stone inclusions it has!

Yes it’s so frustrating to see this! It’s just sellers who don’t know what they bought or worse they trying to scam you into buying a cheap knock off! So glad you found one that is genuine! Glad you didn’t get suckered into the fakes!

Great video. I have both charoite and huge selection of fluorites in my collection but never thought someone may try and sell fluorite as charoite. Once someone sees genuine charoite and gets lost in all the details of it, it just isn't possible to mistaken ot for anything else. Plus my jeweller keeps telling me stories of how they try to get charoite out of Russia into Europe which is actually incredibly difficult if not impossible now that the mine has been closed for around a decade.

Been trying to find a good moderately priced charoite pendant. Another huge tip-off is price. Online if you're shown a big honking piece of 'charoite' and it's under $50.00, it's fake. Seller may show a stone that's genuine, but you'll be sent a fake. I also assiduously avoid anything from India or China. If it turns out to be garbage, usually it's too cost prohibitive to return. (which is what unethical sellers count on.) Really good video and explanation.

Another point out about charoite is that.. real charoite tend be sometime linear but they're very scattered. But they're real chaorite but cut differently since it was a tumble stone. Worth point out that they actually SHINE. Charoite have soft shine. ( Still high grade, reputable seller) As well there is charoite with white spots and black rock, greyish.. they are lowest grade of charoite. But they don't look like charoite in any way. It's obvious to be point out very obvious sign of real charoite is the wavy and blending on surface. Fakes as well can be resin made easy to replicate the charoite stone, and sold as real. Dead give away is glassy feel or plastic. And weight. They are fakes as well. All you have is look at the patterns , it's very crucial. Big fan of charoite 😚💕

@@ColdBrewBarbie also fun fact about Lapis lazuli under uv light longwave, they show red/orangeish dark spots ( inclusion) where at other fake stone doesnt. Sodalite will show white as magenta. But bare to mind the finer versionof Afghanistan lapis don't show red speckles a lot. And some do show yellow.

I'm wondering about real vs fake carnelian. From what I'm reading, real carnelian should be more of a cloudy and solid orange color, maybe almost a little reddish, and it's becoming very rare. The owner of a rock and gem shop told me that carnelian is just agate. But then I read that it's not, and that agate is being dyed, heat treated, and sold as carnelian, and you can tell by looking for the banding. I'd really like to find the truth! I'm not finding much by just searching on Google. Maybe I'm searching with the wrong keywords. Help? Lol

After few hours the dye started coming off. I was surprised as I bought it from a genuine seller and later learnt that it is common market practice to dye Lapiz jewellery and that shouldnt be concerning at all.

Yes Etsy is great! Most sellers with 5 stars are reputable! Some do sell things incorrectly so that why I make these videos so people can feel confident when buying!

My charoite necklace does have black in it, but the purple seems more like a blush, so I'm not sure...

I have two charorite polished stones. And one of them has a lot of white and some black. Does that mean it's real?

I recently saw a whole-seller that was selling something called chinese charoite. It was mostly black and not very purple at all. This is not real charoite right? Have you seen this? Is it also low grade fluorite?
@ColdBrewBarbie
@ColdBrewBarbie 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah chinese Charoite is not real Charoite! It’s violet jasper or silky fluorite most likely!

Hi. It was mentioned that recommendations for sellers selling genuine charoite would be listed in the description box but I’m not seeing it. Am I overlooking it?

I tried acetate on my “lapis lazuli” and blue came off. So convincing too they even put in good flecks. What is it made of then this fake? I mean it’s something.. plastic? Dyed rock? Also please talk about blue spotted jasper I can’t find information on it much at all

Even though Charoite is from Russia can you get is from china? I have got some from china that looks very genuine and and real and paid quite abit for it. It does look incredibly real and like your real ones in the video and like what you described as real. Am I just being naive.

How much is Tiffany stone?
@ColdBrewBarbie
@ColdBrewBarbie 4 жыл бұрын
Tiffany Stone is pretty expensive. I bought two pieces from a direct miner and supplier in Utah. For my smaller piece it was $30 and my larger piece it was $160! In my last crystal haul videos I show these pieces if you want to see what they look like! Typically I’ve seen Tiffany stone selling for over $100, it’s pretty rare to find cheap Tiffany. $30 is pretty much the cheapest I’ve seen and that’s from a direct supplier

Or rose quartz
@ColdBrewBarbie
@ColdBrewBarbie 4 жыл бұрын
Rose Quartz is not really faked. It’s very abundant so there is not need to fake it. Follows the same properties as clear quartz, if it has bubbles inside and it’s too clear it’s probably dyed glass
