A diamonds reflective index is what makes it difficult to see a line through it. An easy way to differentiate between a real V. fake, especially in cooler weather is the condensation test. Blow on the stone like you would your glasses to clean them, if condensation remains when you pull away to look, it's a fake. Or if you happen to be a jeweler, you know.

As a gemologist, the moment you put ‘diamond’ A on the line I confirmed my suspicion it wasn’t a diamond. diamond is so highly refractive, the line will never curve unless its severely included. From the moment you first showed them side by side I knew A was most likely a CZ. You can tell by the sharpness of the facets. Sorry you got scammed. But that’s why you shouldn’t ever trust what you buy online. As I always tell my customers, if it seems too good to be true when I come to jewelry, it usually is.

Use the "fog" method. Breathe on the stone and you will see it "fog up". On a real diamond, the "fog" will evaporate within 1.5 seconds. I have not tried this test on the synthetic (man made) diamonds, by BrilliantEarth, LightBox, or CleanOrigin.

I wanted to say that you can determine the volume of a diamond by it's visual size vs carat rating. A good way to tell all of this is by the price you pay: if you get a diamond that is impeccable and that has zero blemishes or inclusions to 2x magnification then you're either holding a super expensive diamond or a fake.

On mohs hardness scale diamond is rated at a 10. Sapphire is 7 or 8 can't remember sorry. The iPhone camera lenses contains very little amount of real Sapphire. the lense starts scratching at a 6 sometimes 5. Now glass is rated at a 3-4 depending on what type, which allows diamond and Sapphire to scratch it. And allows diamond to scratch Sapphire. This should summarize this whole video
