Not that it really matters, but in the movie at least, the gas lights flickered because the husband kept going into the attic to find young Ingrid Bergman's family jewels. When he did, the house gas lights would lose pressure, dim and flicker. He would then lie about it and twist her mind by calling her crazy, his intent being to get her institutionalized so he could search more thoroughly. He also took pictures off of the wall, moved items and gave her a brooch and then stole it, always getting her to doubt her reality. A detective believed her and ended up arresting the husband eventually...the ending is fantastic, but I won't blow it for anybody. Definitely worth the time, an excellent film despite the vintage.

Three months into living with a narc landlord I began covert recording my conversations and started a covert exit plan because of her 1) Gaslighting 2) Dominating and diminishing personality mixed in with neurosis 3) If the police were ever involved because she used to steal garden items from neighbors 4) Her entitlement. These NPD clowns just make it up as they go along and get off on the power over others and getting you to react. Doing and having the recordings boosted my confidence, and greyrocking, that a third person was in the room listening.

It's horrible.. I've ended relationships for my children & myself away from my mother, lil brother, step father.. I don't have time to handle their victimization rants, or my mom not loving me properly & noth'n I did was good enough.. I was the scapegoat child that was blamed for all her misery (not) & my dog addicted brother is the golden child.. my mother is the worst & I will never have her in my life again unless she seeks professional help, which she won't.. I had to end the manipulation & abuse that the 3 of them were start'n on my teenage daughter..

He complains about each of them, so I know he does about me. I have my own life, and my own money without ever getting child support. Occasionally, I get a visit from an uncle or brother, trying to bring me back into the fold. It's as if they need a scapegoat. Two of my brothers are big time dog and cat people. It's such a strangely repeatable pattern.

thank you so much i mean i always had the feeling.. he’d literally always accuse me of being manipulative when i never saw sharing how i felt as being manipulative. he also would tell me it’s okay i have extra money don’t worry about it but whenever i got upset at something it was always “you’re using me!” and after a bit i told him i wasn’t doing stuff with him that costed money bc of it. but he slowly convinced me and then we had an argument and now i’m done with him. he’ll never work his way back into my life. not after all that bs and how it made me feel

I’d like to learn how to appropriately and effectively navigate narcissism and gaslighting in relation to treatment by DOCTORS and other medical professionals! I have several chronic illnesses and over the past decade, I have struggled with countless doctors and specialists that have been extremely invalidating, minimalizing and dismissive (despite any legitimate history and records of valid, confirmatory testing). For me and many other patients, it becomes a quality of life issue when we aren’t taken remotely seriously by cold caregivers that seem to have their own agenda, especially when options can be limited.

Hi Rebecca! Thanks for this video! I experienced a lot of gaslighting during my marriage to the narcissist but the worst I went through was in deposition with her! When she first started doing the kind of things that were really triggering to me I didn't know that she was gaslighting me nor did I know that what she was doing during the deposition was a form of gas lighting but I know now, thanks to you and others who have explained how menacing and cruel gaslighting can be and is...🤬

Their favourite response when you challenge them is always ' Well ,. that's YOUR perception !' 🤔😂 , because you , OFCOURSE , are imagining things , going crazy , paranoid or delusional !! They need to establish that you have a lesser grasp of reality or the truth so that they can take over and control both , and in turn have SUPERIORITY over you ! Basically they want the central lead and they will damn well make sure that you become supporting cast ,. it's all SO twisted !

Rabecca Zung, you are a woman after my own heart. My first wife was a violent psychopath! She needed a man to beat her on a regular daily basis. I'm not that man, and we divorced. I was made the managing conservator of our three children, and today, I'm married to a covert narcissist. I am so sick of marriage. Gary.. I've been in relationships with gaslighters & full blown narcacists.. it's the absolute worst.. there's no peace of mind, they're manipulative, they lack self accountability, etc.. It's not just women who are awful liars & cheaters.. it comes equally from both sides of the sexes & usually always found in all narcacistic human demos or traits (not fully narcacists).. however, if you're miserable with your new wife... leave & walk away, but on your terms bc, all is us are just liv'n as a mere speck in this huge earth, world & universe... we're all just try'n to be the best person we can be by loving & treat'n all our loved ones & friends with kindness, respect, gratitude, patience & just live our lives the best we can while we're here for this really short window call'd life.. it's so fragile & short in reality.. if you're not happy you need to be your own creator in life.. it's not be'n selfish, but yes, put'n yourself above the partner that brings your life unhappiness.. I'm 45yrs old & I live my life for me.. I refuse to settle for just ok.. Soooo, long story short.. I wasn't dealt the best hand on life, but hey that happens, right? My upbringing was the absolute worst.. horrible parents that should NOT have had children bc, their still liv'n like children today.. I raised myself & both my parents & lil brother.. I work'd from 9 yrs old babysitting & work'n @ 14 to buy myself basic necessities that are the parents responsibility.. my father's side of family was great & family oriented, but judgemental & had favorites.. my dad was the Black sheep... so, of course I was a product of the Black sheep & not liked @ or viewed as an innocent baby born who would become her own individual.. my mind side was awful & had no love to share with each other or anyone else.. dad, mom & lil brother are all alcoholics & brothers drug Addict.. it's not life that defines anyone it's all about how they choose (its a lifestyle choice) to live their life & I didn't want to be anything like my family.. What happened was I liv'd my life wrong.. to make others happy even though they couldn't make themselves happy & I kept the power in the hands of those individuals who could've cared less about me or life.. I literaly, had to remove their toxic behaviors from my life & decided I had to stop my closest family members from my life... OMG.. it didn't take long before I forgave myself for all the trespasses others committed against me & I held my heart & mind imprisoned from move'n fwd.. when I realized forgiving myself, forgave every single person or whatever in a flash, that quickly.. it was an Awakening to say the least.. i realized adults complicate life & make it so much harder.. if kindergartens can get it right with.. "Sticks & stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me".. I srsly was like.. whaaaaat? My entire life could've been so much better & different & the experience overall wouldn't been great & that simply.. I was shocked.. I became my own creator in life.. kinda life Godly in a way.. no one makes our lives miserable or happy but us, we cannot blame others for unkind aspects of our reality.. Hence, I've never allowed another human being to take me out of my own happy place since then... only we control whether we're happy or not.. Please talk to your wife, but it sounds like you're over her... that's perfectly okay... I decided mostly the 1st ½of my life was wasted on why family members didn't love me, invest some'n as simple as time or listening to me as a child, not told I matter or I'm worth anything on what.. noth'n useless baggage.. I refuse to do anything on any day that isn't meaningful or purposeful & if it's not its not in my vision.. I hope you can live a life full of happiness, laughter, enjoying every last moment you have for you & everything else will fall into place..
