How to spray a matte hood with PPG

To Make Matte Clear Coat, Add 1/2 to 3/4 tablespoon of Talc (depending on desired flatness) for every 4 oz of CC, stir until haze is uniform add hardener stir, let catalyze for 5 min, re-stir add to spray gun and apply like regular clear. Thoroughly air blast gun nozzle between coats, stir after each coat to prevent clumping. Allow to flash 20 to 30 minutes before applying second coat.

I'm glad I was this video I just painted a motorcycle a mat blue about a month ago I sprayed 3 coat of silver base 3 cost of candy blue and 3-4 coats of satin clear it really looked good BUT! I don't feel like the satin clear protect the paint like gloss clear it was scratched and chipped really easy when putting it back together....can you help

Great video! Do you rememberr when mixing up your clear if it gave you different options like for example.."eggshell, satin, semi gloss, matte" Ive always wondered which one to go with if I ever got a job like this. My rep gave me a little booklet with spary outs of each type of finish..but i find its kinda hard to tell cause theyre so small lol,

+TPike777 yeah they are small usually when you type in a code that is matte it will recommend a shade for you. For all the BMW that I have done I always use fc02. Yeah those spray outs are not to useful

No paint booth, no customers to please, I just want to try painting it. I am a house painter, so I can handle a gun, and I can do prep work, but I want to try a little shadetree painting here where nobody will care.

Haha, well, (Sheepish grin) I have an old truck that most certainly is a 1-stage paint, probably what old-timers used to keep in stock for decades... maybe something like Oxford white... although color names have changed, I think you know the white I am talking about. From one pro to another, what do I use for the base coat, and can I just get a cheap-o white premixed and ready to shoot? It's tempting to pick a new color, but I am wondering what kind of paint I'd be looking at to one-coat and matte finish, like a commercial or farm truck style. I'd be terrified to make the paint look better than the truck deserves. LOL. I am too old to think about a fun color, but that blue looks great! Thanks!

Man, I'm shocked at how slow the envirobase process is! Standoblue for this same job is 1.5 coat base (single visit), 10 min dry time, 2 wet coats of clear (back to back), 15 min flash, 60 min bake @ 60°C.....done!...put it together. My car is in detail while you put your last coat of base on! No offense, just busting balls😃. Seriously though, you can make double the money working flat rate using axalta.
