i know this is an old video but heck there’s always something new to learn & what i use is tape to remove any dust particles after its been cleaned with wax & grease remover. i learned this trick from a painter were i used to work at a chevy body shop. i use geckotape to stick & remove it for the whole work surface & it doesn’t cause static. just make a circle with the sticky side out & use the palm of your hand. hope this helps now 3 years later lol

Quick tip for the dirt issue. Try back taping the wheel wells and applying the paper as smooth as possible to the exposed backtape. Cut with a blade around the wheel well. Now you have no gap between the car body and wheel for dirt to come out of.

I use axalta chromabase and to combat motteling and sand-up edges is I mix 40% 175k to 60% 69301s basecoat blender to make a "wet bed" in the blend areas. I also use the absolutely slowest reducer I can get away with for the ambient temperature. It makes the drop coats and blends lay right down with out sand pile up. I will also increase the spray distance and lower my pressure so the basecoat wont dry in the air before it hits the panel. I get drop coats and blends down easier In the winter time when I can actually increase drop coat pressure as the substrate is colder in general.

Painting in 110+ degrees year around I always get a sandiness in my basecoat at the edge of the repair. After covering the primer I let it flash and then have to wet sand with 800 and then lay down my "finish" coat to get my metallics perfect. After that smash on the clear so you can see your reflection. Done.

After a good blow with decent pressure and a couple tacks, an old Italian guy taught me to wash the vehicle with clean, warm water and a good dust free rag . Soak rag, then ring out so it's not dripping, but still good and wet. allow to dry and start spraying. I remembered to try this again recently on a complete black mustang. It came out very clean and I think it was from the old guys trick. Kills the static, Static guns are becoming more affordable and work very well on all surfaces.

Yes, you can wipe down last with a waterbased cleaner ( I make my own with water and iso alcohol) they charge $30-90 a gal for the same thing you can make for 25 cents! It kills the static, works great on raw plastic bumpers as last wipe. I do waterbased then wax and grease remover on most things. Then waterbase again on anything plastic or raw. Try that! Mix your own water cleaner!

I've found 2 medium wet coats and a third medium coat helps with the blotchiness. I back the gun off a bit on that third coat. Then double control coat it and clear. A wet bed also makes it easier to lay the metallics down right.

I used to have trouble with sand piling, until I started using blending clear before first coat of paint,and blending clear before every coat of base.Blending clear allows the dry spray to melt when it hits the sides.

Gabriel, first off congratulations on using triggering instead of flicking the gun. As well as not getting the overspray problem it also solves panel edge build up. As for the dirt problem I have found that after the cleaning and blow off redo the blow off with the gun as if you are painting the car. The gun drags shit out of places the blowing doesn't which is why it comes out in our paintwork, so if you tack while fake painting it finds that shit before hand. At 64 years old it's the best thing I ever found for clean work and wish I had found it earlier in my career 🤪

Akzo Nobel paints have so many weird issues and problems that you just don't see in other paint systems. They really really need to step up their game, there competition is wiping the floor with them. It's not the 70s anymore if you can get coverage in 1 coat your behind. It's never good if you have to do something more than once. Would you paint your entire house with multiple coats? Or do you buy the paint that covers in the first coat.... More than 1 coat eats up time money and product.

How much 490 do i put in??
@MOTIVATEDPAINTERS
@MOTIVATEDPAINTERS 6 жыл бұрын
+Eddie Lugo a splash it all depends on how much paint you have left over I don't have a percentage to be honest. Try like 20% of what you have left over after you achieve coverage
