You're right, smooth walls can make painting easier, but proper preparation is key even for less-than-perfect surfaces. You do not have to cover the whole ceiling, just close to the edge borders between ceiling and walls (1ft width of mask at most). Its also possible to spray ceilings first with a larger tip like a 515 and then change to like a 315 tip and shield and spray the walls. This way you just have to mask the floors if they cant be over sprayed, windows, doors, trim. With painting, each job presents its own set of challenges, not all you can approach the same way as the previous. There are variables. All painters know something and their ways seem like the “right way”. Its subjective to a certain degree. Yea, masking upside down I would avoid if I could. Rolling out all interiors, except new builds, not how I go about it personally. Removing outlet covers, spraying all of one color first, cross hatching is optimal imo. We can all agree, eye protection, long sleeves, gloves and a real respirator would have been choice here tho.

Thanks for your feedback SweetSpot. We hope this is inspiring for our consumer customers but we do also have a channel for more serious contractor sprayers - kzbin.info A 315 tip could be quite slow for walls but as you say gives better accuracy if only using a shield to get the edges 👍 Thanks - The Wagner DIY Team.

If your just doing your rental properties just take your airless in there and fan everything if it’s not bad the only paint that don’t touch up correctly is flat paint so try and change over if that’s what u have on the walls and u can honestly go in and do what a old head would say and feather all your walls in and fan your ceiling’s and doors for the spots that’s needed and cut your base for a cheap quick turn

@WAGNERUnitedKingdom4 ай бұрын
Hello Frank, to stop overspray with an airless sprayer, maintain a consistent distance of about 30 cm (12 inches) from the surface and keep the gun parallel to the surface. Reduce the spray pressure to the lowest effective setting and use the correct spray tip for the job. Avoid flexing your wrist at the end of each pass, as this can direct the spray into the atmosphere. Practicing on scrap cardboard before starting the actual project can also help you fine-tune your technique. I hope that helps. Kind Regards Wagner DIY

Overnight works for me but you are better off spraying the walls first and then masking the walls (2.6m film) and then spraying the ceiling. The walls are easier to mask than the ceilings. So the order is skirting boards first, over-spraying on to walls, next day mask skirting boards then spray walls, over-spraying onto ceiling, next day mask walls and spray ceiling. Hope this helps.

@WAGNERUnitedKingdom2 жыл бұрын
Hi guys! Thanks for your question. In this instance the walls and ceilings were getting their first coat with the same material - no need to wait for the paint to dry, they were just done in one go. If you are not changing material but need to wait for paint to dry for any reason then just de-pressurise the sprayer and leave the spray gun in a bucket of water to stop the tip from drying out. Then when you come back to spraying you are ready to go! If you are changing colours then you will need to go through the full cleaning process (which only takes a few minutes!). My brother-in-law brought me the Wagner 130 to paint the interior doors of my house. It came with the 515 nozzle. He also purchased the 311 nozzle so I used it first. When I used 311 to spray the doors using a satin water based paint it always seem to get clogged up and there would be a single narrow spray stream on the left side while the other side had a nice wide even stream. I then removed the 311 and install the 515 but it seemed to have a lot of over spray. Would the 311 nozzle I was using be defective?
@WAGNERUnitedKingdom2 жыл бұрын
Hey Happy Places! Sorry to hear you are having difficulty. Actually the 311 is the ideal tip for spraying woodwork and achieving a fine finish - as long as the paint is properly prepared! And yes the 515 will almost definitely allow too much paint through as it is designed for covering large areas like spraying walls. A few things to check: dilution - start around 5-10%, you want a cream like consistency that runs off the stirrer; temperature - keep the paint as warm as possible (don't leave outside and then spray!); strain - it's advisable to pass the paint through a sieve if you are having problems with blockages; re-clean your tips to remove any dried on paint (try Wagner TipClean!). Proper mixing, dilution and not spraying cold paint should achieve perfect results. Please let us know how you get on.

Hello Jack, it sound like you have particle in the paint, we would recommend pouring the paint through a sieveso that you don't get any particles in the machine which could block it. If you find it is using too much paint then you will need to move the gun faster. 2 light coats that dry quickly are better than applying one heavy coat. The spray pressure should be set so that you get a good fan pattern with soft edges - if you set it too low for your material then you may not get a good finish. The amount of paint used is down to the speed you work at. Hope that helps!

How many coats with this?
@WAGNERUnitedKingdom2 жыл бұрын
Hello Zac, the number of coats you apply obviously depends on the surface that you applying them onto as this has been sprayed onto a bare plaster it required a minimum of two coats. If you were covering a strong colour you would also need two coats we some surfaces and paint types you can use just one coat. With spraying the coats are so quick to apply. kind Regards the wAGNER DIY team

thanks for the video. so no sanding prep required?
@MrBledi254 жыл бұрын
Of course sanding and filli is needed, the paint should be overlapped by 50% vertically then repeated horizontally for a professional finish.
@spikebowler4 жыл бұрын
Do this and you WILL end up with a crap job that can't be easily repaired. Ceiling and wall paints do not take well to masking tape. Because the finish is by spray you can not touch with a brush without it showing. You should... mask, spray sealer to walls and ceiling, sand, spray ceiling first coat, spray wall first coat, sand, spray ceiling second coat and back roll with roller while still wet( this allows you to touch up or repair with brush or roller in the future), brush and roll 2nd coat on walls. If you have to mask the ceiling to cut in do so with as low tack tape as possible (low tack tapes won't support masking plastic or paper plus the weight overspray as shown in this video. Higher tack tapes will damage your ceiling paint. This process takes longer than video shows but is still quicker than brushing and rolling all coats. You MUST finish all coats with a brush of roller when painting interiors.

Did you watch the video Mqc Cjc? He masked the ceiling. Why buy a spray can (different paint type in spray can, colour, sheen matching issues) to fix up repairs you shouldn't have to do anyway. Do you know anything about painting Einstein? Your comment suggests not Einstein!

I have just bought a Wagner paint sprayer to do the front room just wondering if you have to seal the door to stop paint dust particles going around the house.

Special masking tape, even if it pulls of paint just touch up ceiling
@ausreefguy53624 жыл бұрын
Kamran Shafiq in my experience most do it yourself types doing this would be beginners at best you can’t touch up a sprayed ceiling without it showing, if you wish to be able to touch it up you have to spray the ceiling & use a roller to layer it off as your going - this is called backrolling it creates a stipple instead of a flat finish this way when/if you touch up you can use a roller & it won’t show up, also the tape doesn’t have to be pushed down super hard, the edge where the two colours meet I’d suggest pushing down the internal edge firmly where the colours meet and softly tack the rest now fold out your film a start tacking the film in the center of the ceiling just put it on very lightly to hold your plastic nothing more as that’s when you will get it pulling the paint off - when doing this on freshly painted ceilings wash your hands thoroughly first & be careful ceilings mark very easily & flat is not washable, as for tape I recommend 3m scotch blue edge lock & 3m pre folded masking film - painter & decorator, 12 years. The best time to remove the tape in freshly painted wall ?, well if it’s finish coat I’d remove it straight after spraying while the paint is still semi wet that way you will get a nice clean line, if you choose to do it once dried you’ll have to run a sharp blade along the edge of the tape otherwise when you remove the film/tape you will get a jagged edge/paint could peel with the tape, my preference is to remove it straight after spraying final coat that way you eliminate any chances of tearing/jagged edges where you now have to cut a line free hand.
