This is very helpful. And with improved Chrome/Aluminum paints being developed and marketed, the same process will result in better brightwork painting. I think you overlooked an important tip. If you are clear coating and polishing before masking and painting, try this - after masking and trimming is complete, spray a light coat of the same clear coat and let it dry completely. Then, paint the trim black. That quick clear coat will seal the tape and prevent the black from saturating the tape or creeping under. Any seepage will be clear.

I'm so glad I stumbled across this video. I have some models of cars stored away, that I painted about three years ago, so the paint is well cured and now I know what to do about the trim. I think it is important to use the right kind of tape to avoid damaging the delicate finishes.
@JHHobby4 жыл бұрын
haha true, you need a proper masking tape and fine spray..some spray cans shoot thick paints and its hard to get a nice result, if you have airbrush that is the best! =)

Beautiful work. I’m really struggling with this atm. Made a real mess with my truck I’m painting, lots of bleed through because I didn’t mask correctly and sprayed to heavily. I hope to learn a lot from your videos and improve my skills

Haha take your time and always remember to spray it light, that's the most important part😁

That’s a neat technique - very nice finish. Yes it’s harder to do with a spray can or hand painting. The brush stokes build up more than spray painting - by spray can or air brush!
@sohchx4 жыл бұрын
This is a risky method but it works. If cut to deep you risk the chance of pulling up the clear coat along with the tape. This happened to me a few years back and I decided to use another method. I now trace the trim as a template and cut out my own templates which completely eliminates use of a blade .
@JHHobby4 жыл бұрын
ahh i see..what method you use? =D yeah normally i dont cut the line too strong, just enough to cut the tape

@@Sundaydish1 Oh I'm loving the airbrush! So much control of where you are applying paint and how much of it. Just need more practise with it and maybe a second one with a larger needle size for painting the body of a car.
@Sundaydish1 Жыл бұрын
@@TheModelRoom I found that a .5mm needle and nozzle are best. With a dual action airbrush you can do anything with that size. Anything lower is really for fine detail work. And 15 to 20 psi. Happy airbrushing

Hi there, very nice video, it is very illustrative. I am a beginner in scale modeling and I have a question. I masked my model with two types of masking tapes: regular and making for curves. After painting the window trims, the marks of the masking tape were marked all over my paint job. Do you know why it happened..? I have to say that the model were clear coated and polished before I masked it for painting window trims. Thanks for your help.

I don’t know, the spray can looks pretty good. Why did you spray inside for the spray can but not the airbrush, or did I miss something in the video?
@bertholdbouman30074 ай бұрын
When you use a spray can, wipe the nozzle clean all the time or it will sputter and splash, as the paint tends to adhere to the nozzle. You can see that happening when he does the inside, at 7.20, stop it at exactly 7.29 and you'll see it.
