I've recently found your channel and I'm honestly impressed with the sheer amount of work and effort which you put into every video. I have every intention of trying out a squat focused workout now, thank you for your amazing content.

Have to say im surprised and impressed at how well you explained things here, most sports channels are useless when it comes to weightlifting, can clearly see you lift and are competent in a gym, personally as a stickler and extremely pedantic trainer youre about 75% right in everything that you say but the main thing i should say is, you have a very good audience and will appeal to mostly beginners, NEVER show incorrect technique(!) you have very good squatting technique overall, and that is all people need to see. If you show beginners incorrect technique and they arent able to comprehend why one is superior to the other they will amalgamate the two, and sadly most beginners cannot differentiate that early on. Beyond that its nice to see someone putting in this much effort for 2 of my favourite sports.

Weighted Lunges are much more important I feel. You train your core and ass muscles to keep you upright in the bread and butter of this sport. Doing them bulgarian style is an even greater challenge. Another bonus of lunges is that you can load your legs higher with less stress on your back.
@JMUDoc

I'd aim more toward lunges for badminton specifically, as it mimics an actual badminton motion.

i came here to know which depth of squat is good for badminton, the powerlifter squat or the atg squat. Seems you are doing the atg squat.

This was a great video as usual. I have a few questions though. When doing bodyweight squats (I know you hate them) my feet point outwards slightly, just as you said. However, my coach tells me to keep my feet straight and parallel to each other. I have been told this by my previous coach too. What do you think of this? What do you think about using dumbbells if you don't have barbells?
@SwiftBadminton
@SwiftBadminton 6 жыл бұрын
Antiquark hahaha maybe I sound a little harsh, but I don't hate them. My probem with them is that they aren't taxing enough for a typical badminton player (presumably youre're quite fit) to achieve the muscle adaption I'm talking about. Strength and power is best developed in the 1-10 rep range, meaning the weight should be heavy enough to be in that range. A fit badminton player should be capable of doing 100 squats easily, and at that rep range and resistance, you won't stimulate strength development. Maybe your coaches have you doing squats for a different reason, but at that point it's a pretty different exercise to what I'm talking about here. Regarding the feet angle, it doesn't matter too much for bodyweight squats.

Just realised I didn't answer your question! (typing on mobile is a pain). I think squatting with straight feet was common a while back, but it's pretty outdated advice in my opinion. If you feel more comfortable at an angle, then that's likely going to be your body's natural strongest and most comfortable position to squat from. No disrespect to your coaches, but there is a lot of misinformation circulating. Perhaps that was the way they were taught and they're simply rehashing it to you. Maybe their argument is that it translates better to a jump, but that argument has spme serious flaws. Yep! A barbell is still ideal, but working with is going to be a good substitute. Naturally you'll need to do more reps to make up for the lighter weight though.

Hey I've been wondering with barbell squats lately is that I have an Anterior Pelvic Tilt but i can do 100pound barbell squat. I was wondering if doing barbell squats would potentially harm me especially my back since I want to train my legs
