That’s a very elaborate job. I simply vacuum and sweep the area and roll the stain without any extra steps. I do my lanai, drive and walkway every couple of years. I only use sealer for the drive and walkway because they get direct sunlight.

Our Cottage of a home we dwell in has similarities to something designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. This will finally be the time that I stain our cement walkways with a Cherokee Red as a nod to the master. Your video is extremely helpful. Ironically I just purchased a 3300 PSI gas power washer for our boat, outdoor furniture etc. Anyone that has ever owned or rented a power washer knows how it goes, you end up power washing everything you own. It’s quite addictive and the perfect tool for this cement staining project.

Great video. Very informative. Showed the steps he used through the entire process. Very useful and gave me an idea for repairing some damage one of the stucco repair guys caused by not know ing how to use a power washer. He was trying to just wash away grit and dirt but aggressively applied the power washer directly on the concrete and blew away all the surface fine fish leaving exposed coarser aggregate wherever the power washer was used. He didn't try to do his work uniformly so my patios and driveway ended up with random streaks of scarred concrete wherever the power washer wand strayed. It looks terrible! I have a mess to repair and this looks like the perfect solution. Great idea and video. Thanks.

Now the BIG question: is it cheaper and easier to simply add the color to the cement before pouring the slab initially (if the slab doesn't already exist), or it it best to do it later as you did?
@tommartin30162 жыл бұрын
Way better, easier, cheaper to do before the slab is poured . I wished I knew for that for mine.

Would this work on stamped concrete? Our cement guys put the wrong release(Terra Cotta) on our stamped concrete so we had them pressure was it off the next day and now it’s left looking like a peach color😱 we wanted it to match our Mojave patio deck🤦🏻♀️Do you think this can be used over the Terra Cotta(which hasn’t been sealed btw) to match our existing patio?

Great Video! Just curious, do you know how stain compares to paint as far as it being slippery when wet? I had a painted front porch once and when it got wet it was a nightmare as it was so slippery. When your stained patio gets wet, is it any more slippery than it was prior to being stained? Thank you.

I like how it seems to still look like regular, flat concrete, not painted.. would you say that this is the case? we just had colored concrete poured and after some overworking due to drying fast on the crew, we may end up staining it to get the color we wanted (which happens to look just like this color you used)
@romanpruneda-garza98813 жыл бұрын
So I noticed that you had a crack on the patio on the bottom left. Do you think if you would have used concrete filler or patcher or something like that and then did the stain Would it have been noticeable do you think?

@ProBuyersGuides3 жыл бұрын
Those are my church pants. No way I’d get acid on em. I didn’t get color on my shoes. You may not get the same dulling of color I did with the elements but I was happy for that as it was too Orange out the gates but with time looks much more natural. I still would have gone with a more natural neutral color if I could do it again.
@gracediego80394 жыл бұрын
Very good video but can it work in a painted concrete?
@Isyss183 жыл бұрын
I would think no....if the surface is painted then the concrete will not be able to absorb the stain, it would just sit on top of the surface.

Whenever you use muriatic acid (diluted hydrochloric acid), power wash immediately or vacuum the acid from the concrete. When the acid reacts with the calcium and sodium components in concrete, it converts them to calcium and sodium chloride (salts you definitely don't want in your concrete). Probably not an issue if the surface isn't too permeable, but I wouldn't risk it.
@kbrooks32153 жыл бұрын
Robert. Are you saying it’s good to use the acid, but just make sure to rinse it off?
@roberthiggins9863 жыл бұрын
@@kbrooks3215 muriatic acid is ok to use provided you pay attention to how absorptive the concrete surface is. If it is open or absorptive I would rinse the surface very well and use an indoor/outdoor vacuum to remove any potential residue.
