Hi, I'm about to stain a kitchen counter top. What's the best method to leave it with an even colour? Thanks from Sintra, Portugal.

@@EverythingHouse HI. It's beech. It's a new countertop. Never stained or varnished.

It would be best to use a wood conditioner before applying stain, as to ensure you get an even coloring. Are you going to put a protective coating on it after you stain?

@@EverythingHouse Thank you for your advice. Yes, I will put a protective satin varnish. A hard one, but not polyurethane. That can give you an awesome finish, but surely I would make a mess...

For a countertop, it may be worth the mess. Counters need to withstand a lot of abuse. I'd go with an oil based poly. Better to take a week and put a great finish on them the first time. We have a video on applying it if you need some guidance.

Can i sand between coats of stain?
@EverythingHouse
@EverythingHouse 2 жыл бұрын
No. Don't do that. The wood will accept what it accepts. Sanding in between coats will cause uneven coverage, however it could be a cool look. Try it and let me know!

Why did you wipe after applying with the brush? just like you wiped after applying with sponge? thanks.
@EverythingHouse

Not sure exactly what you mean. The difference in pressure applied changes the amount of stain is applied.

Are you forgetting the fact that you have to complete different colors no on the same piece of wood because you did not wipe off the excess from the brush method

Yup. Saw that after. Thank you for checking.
