Holy sh!t! It was from Danny Kim's stand up tutorial from the early 90s that I learned how to stand up on a bodyboard! Learning the proper foot placement with the rear foot near the inner rail and front foot near the outer rail made all the difference! It's awesome seeing an updated tutorial from a legendary and pioneering stand up bodyboarder!

This dude had a harder snap than Won. Kim and Yap had vicious snaps/cutbacks. Won just was better at airs.

Lessons from a legend. If you go backside, do you switch foot positions to close off your stance and keep your back leg on your back rail? Or switchstance? I can’t remember if I ever saw Danny Kim pics where he was riding backside.
@Codgerism2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I switch which side of the board my feet are on when going backhand (not that I'm great at surfing backhand finless but it definitely helps hold the rail and trim). So if you are goofy going right you would put your back foot over the right rail and front foot over the left rail.

Do I have to switch the feet depending on if I go right or left
@thestereokid60733 жыл бұрын
This is my question too. So on your backhand my first thought is to go DK, grab rail and lean back - same as how I take steep backhand drops on my surfboard. How do other guys do it and what’s your thoughts? Tried this for the first time on my 13 y/o boog today, but I’m gonna have to order a bigger board that doesn’t have as much flex. So keen to learn this rad style of board-riding!

@@thestereokid6073 I try to switch which sides of the board I put my feet on when going backhand so your inside rail/tail still grip the wave. Feels unnatural at first but seems to work for me.

What leash is recommended for that board, and where to place the plug?
@dannykim22514 жыл бұрын
I would use a surf comp leash. The thin one, I like them thin for less drag! I would use a plug that would counter sink on the deck so it doesn’t catch on your shorts or leg. I usually put the plug on the area where the tail block area is kind of next to the inside rail area.. Aloha, Danny Kim

use a foot leash, and place it where your back foot is located (goofy-back left corner of board/ regular-back right corner of board). I've seen some riders use forearm leashes, but I wouldn't do it.
@Codgerism2 жыл бұрын
I put my leash plug on the opposite side of the tail to where my back foot usually goes so it doesn't get in the way, and always use a surfboard legrope!
