I'm a 53yr old log and lumber trucker from the Mo Ozarks that loves watching you live my dream of flying and really wanting to go get schooled now more than ever because of your videos. It's gotta be a little safer than hauling 120,000lb of logs in the Ozark mountain's but I spend my free time in the extreme sport of rock bouncing bounty hill's. The hardest part of the flying to me seems like the radio I still scratch my head saying what did they just say or even more what it meant. Your an inspiration.

Hi Bill, here's the FAA's webpage link to how to speak over the radio. Hopefully it'll give you a better understanding so you'll be able to decode what you hear! Cheers from New Zealand, David :) www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/aim_html/chap4_section_2.html

Even with the camera shaking the new position gives a nice perspective. As a non-pilot, I enjoy it when you talk about how to operate a plane.

I feel like a middle schooler offering advice to a pro athlete, but I've been experimenting with external cameras on my plane for a few months and have had some luck getting them dialed in. The tail camera I use is a Hero 9 and the built in stabilization with the newer camera eliminated all of the shake on my tail cam. On the wing, I use a GoPro Max for 360 shots, and as an added bonus, this camera does wonderfully with vibration as long as you don't use an extension arm. I just added a down facing Hero 9 and my upcoming videos will show how nicely this is working. I've got several RockSteady mounts and have no vibration issues - Make sure you use a metal camera cage, and I would strongly recommend you get a logbook entry for any external cameras to stay out of trouble with the FAA. I can't wait to see you upcoming videos with the external cameras working, your channel is amazing. You are a huge inspiration to the rest of us. In case you may find it helpful, I did a whole camera overview on my channel when I got to 100 subscribers in January (sad, I know... but it was big for me). Hope you find it helpful and GO DAWGS!!!

Double Dawg Dare I have never heard about a camera logbook for external cameras, and sounds really important. Could you help me with more information about it? And in what cases would be beneficial to have it please
@DoubleDawgDare
@DoubleDawgDare 3 жыл бұрын
I took this information below from FlightFlix, and it basically explains what the FAA requires. My camera mounts were treated as minor alterations, and just to ensure that we stay within compliance with the FAA, I have logbook entries for each of my external camera mounts. Technically, they require tools to install, which makes them more than a temporary mount in the eyes of some. I don’t want to have my pilot’s license in jeopardy, especially with a KZbin channel showing what I’m doing, and I followed the guidance to get an official logbook entry. From FlightFlix/Rock Steady: Minor Change (Major / Minor Alteration) A minor change in type is broken into 2 categories, Major and Minor Alterations. A major alteration is one that has enough of an effect (on below listed items) to require a 337 form and sign off by an IA mechanic. A minor alteration is one that does not effect the below listed items allowing your A&P mechanic to simply install and make a logbook entry. Affected items requiring Major Alteration FAR 1.1: - Weight - Balance - Structural Strength - Performance - Power Plant Operation - Flight Characteristics - Any other qualities affecting airworthiness

I do put some more details on my mounts on my own channel - on the 100 subscriber video, but I don’t want to pimp my own channel in somebody else’s comment thread. It’s not cool, and I certainly mean no disrespect to Kevin. Kevin, you rock dude!

Airplane and camera nerd here... Shaky cam fix ideas that worked for me here and there: Maybe try to smooth the airflow around the cam and mount? I have carved a styrofoam cone/fin and glued it to the back of the case, it helped on one application, kinda ugly. I faired a mount pole in once, but I left it over the cascades somewhere, not enough glue for the ludicrous speed of a baby beech. Or, mount the camera skewed to change to the turbulence pattern. In edit, zoom, tilt and pan the footage to get it square. Belly shots of the gear are the best! Love all of y'all's videos!!

Absolutely loved the underside tail cam, it has added a totally new dimension to your videos. Something I also like but do not seem to see you using it a great deal is the camera you have mounted atop the vertical tailplane. All in all, cracking stuff. Your videos give so much enjoyment through creation of the feel that I am actually in there with you. Have always loved the 310 and 771BC looks superb in her new livery. I have set external cameras on many piston aircrafts on various positions and found that the tail is the most shaky point for recording. I would recommend you to find a way or other support that is shorter that the one you have. You will be showing more fuselage than landscape but it will be more stable. If you decide to stick with the mount you have now and use a GoPro9 (better optical stabilization system) may consider a higher battery consumption = less recording time. Same lenght mount logic goes for any other position, interior or exterior. Cheers from SLET! Great content 💪🏼

Kick Arse video like always! Love how all your videos, especially the audio and sounds that you’ll only hear from a twin instantly brings back such good memories for me of when I was a Critical Care Flight Paramedic. I started out in a 414, until we outgrew that ultra reliable bird, and then we upgraded to a 421C. After hundreds of hours in both models I can defiantly say they are both trustworthy workhorses and you can’t go wrong with any twin Cessna.

I imagine you changed over to main tanks before heading back to base. You left us on Aux tanks going up to Janesville. I liked the shots from the tail cam. When I saw whatever that was hanging down on right side behind the wheels I was wondering if they were steps. Nope, they are part of the landing gear! I have an Amateur radio operator friend who lives in Janesville and have never seen what the area looks like. Your cameras helped me see the area. BTW, good landing at Janesville! One thing I just thought of is the time I was a student pilot trying to land a Cessna 150 and landed on the tail first. My IP was not too happy with me damaging his plane.

Great video. I know it's over 1.5 years old now but for action camera's I highly recommend GoPro Hero10 Black or newer, Insta360 ONE RS (modular design, available with 360 camera, 4K boos lens or Leica wide-angle with 1-inch sensor) or DJI Action-2. All have excellent digital stabilization. Even horizon-lock is available. The Insta360 can set it to post so the camera uses less power during recording so you can record longer videos, and you can enable the stabilization on the PC.
