Hi Emma! You have always good ideas like this one. Starting a converstaion is not always easy above all here in Switzerland, were people are more closed up than Australians, preferring their comfort zone than risking to face strangers. It's also different related with the German speaking part, the French, or the Italian one, which is by far the minority. We also start by greetings and after frequently chatting about the weather which is not very original. After we often speak about news or games like soccer or hockey. Frequently we also groan about the always sticking traffic. Peoples problems are all about the same in the entire world. Thank you Emma!

Hi Emma, how's going? Thanks for sharing these great tips with us. Your lessons are always very didactic. Another great place to start a conversation is in the stadium. It's not so difficult to emphathize with a fan wearing the same team jersey. I've visited Australia a couple of times and have seen most of the cities, except for Adelaide. My first trip included Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Alice Springs, the Barrier Reef/Cairns, and Uluru. My second trip was sailing counter(anti)clockwise from Sydney to Perth with stops at Brisbane, Geraldton, other ports. I would jump at the chance to do it again. There's a lot more to see than a packaged tour allows. "G'Day" was something I hardly heard at all, but many people said "No worries." This was especially the case if I was thanking a hotel employee, taxi driver, or a restaurant worker. And there really were no worries. Everyone was looking out for each other.
