Geez... I love that plane. The looks, the engine sound, the simplicity... everything. When I win the the lotto I'll have one of those beauties.

They are definitely an awesome plane, I got to go up in one out of Juneau. That big radial sounds like 20 Harley’s, you have to love it.

My father was an army aviator. He started flying in 1958 and the beaver is one of his favorite aircraft. I showed his your start up video. You made an 87 year old retired pilot remember a great aircraft!

I was flying the bush up in Alaska back in the 80s; I traded my Beaver to a guy for his wife-I wish to hell Ida kept the Beaver

Hi there what's the reason for having to move the prop lever up and down a few times. Cheers and great vid.
@bushman9073 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, for fuel induction throughout the cylinders. after priming the engine and wobbling it for the correct pressure it just makes a start easier on the old bird.

Hey, great video!👍 I don't think I will ever own one, unless I hit the lottery, but it's interesting to know how it's done. Do you have to monitor and maintain a certain manifold pressure when you're flying the beaver?
@bushman9074 жыл бұрын
hey jim! we like to run it at 30-1950. So 30 on your manifold pressure and 1950 on the RPMs

what do you mean 'switched around wing on", I want to learn how to fly low and slow, but I don't know where to go, I live in the desert of NM
@bushman9074 жыл бұрын
Hello, after rewatching (and I sound goofy I’m aware) but couldn’t find what you meant but switched around wing on. Haha but low and slow is kind of the way of these aircraft, they don’t go much faster than 90mph (use MPH in DHC2/DHC3) But come to Alaska anytime and we will show you! Thanks for the comment.

Hey there, I'm working on my commercial right now, and am currently instrument rated. The goal is to go to Alaska and fly there (when I hit ATP time I might go for the airlines, but who knows). Any tips? How did you get to where you are? Thanks, Radioactivebuny
@bushman9076 жыл бұрын
We all love what we do and are home every night! Airlines is great for some but we love flying low and slow through the bad weather of Southeast Alaska. Get those ATP times and if the airlines arent for you Alaska is the place to go!

how often does the motor break down?
@bushman9075 жыл бұрын
it never breaks down. oil leaks most of the time tend to be the deal with 985's overall but nonetheless the best engine ever built

Why do they use old planes so much?
@donnh80044 жыл бұрын
They are ultra reliable and also they quit making them. Now they just keep getting overhauled and rebuilt. They have taken to replacing the engines with gar turbines and or electric motors for short trip use. Those original Beavers are equipped with a pretty powerful engine. I lived in isolation as a radio repeater man. We had Beavers and Cessna 185's delivering our mail and groceries. The location got a lot of storms in the winter and sometimes the Beavers got tossed around. One day my supervisor was coming for a visit and the Beaver got switched around wing on. The pilot gave it full throttle and it had enough power to recover without ending in the bay. Another supervisor had a similar scare. This one hated flying. The Beaver got flipped with its nose pointed at the water same thing, the pilot gave it full throttle and pulled it out almost skipping over the waves. We had some good bush pilots up the BC coast.
