Hey Brooke, Brisbane based Production Assitant here, seeing as both of you have moved out of Australia for work. Would you advise other up and coming industry individuals to do the same and enter a bigger market or to battle it out in Oz? And would you have any tips to how to hit the ground running in this economic climate?

Hey Alice! It's really hard to say with Covid happening this year. Generally speaking I think it's always so advantageous personally and professionally to go out and get international experience but if I were in Aus right now, there's no way I would be moving abroad until say 2021. That's just my opinion anyways! I hear Brisbane is really picking up so with that in mind, I'd hang tight there, be ready to hit the ground running once the industry is back up and running and then check in- in the New Year to see if you're financially and personally ready to try an overseas market. I hope that makes sense! Wherever you are in the world I think the best way to ride the storm out is to upskill in some way and to try to digitise your skillset for example could you explore VFX producing or some form of post or digital producing? In any case the best way to prepare yourself for when things return to normal is to make sure you're still networking during this time, don't stop sending out your CV, cold email companies that you'd love to work for (you have nothing to loose) email Production Managers and Executive Producers, keep your website up to date, promote yourself and your services on your instagram and keep benchmarking and learning off other people- that could take form in a Masterclass or simply watching round table interviews on KZbin. Make sure you're up to date with films and find ways to keep the passion alive. I like to watch all the new movies, watch all the BTS on YoutTube and to make Pinterest boards to keep myself visually stimulated. This way you don't lose momentum during isolation and once the gates are open, you're going to come out guns blazing :)
