Don't worry, you'll do it! 50% is practice (it took me about 3 months) and 50% setting of the engine (everything must be perfect). Your weight and size will be of help too. By the way, a XR is much easier to start then a XL. Have a lot of fun with your bike, it's a classic!

God you make it look easy! But hey i'm getting a 94' xr600r for my first bike (For my 15th birthday) I'm 6'1ish and around 250lb. I'm pretty dam big for my age so do you think i could kick start this bike as easily as you? Thanks in advance.

Nice easy kickstart dude. I had an old yz490. That was a real pig to start. Had to kick it damn hard to get it to start. Started it like this guy here kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJvPlHalebB0htE. Hold in the clutch, lift my butt as high as I can and slam hard on the kickstart. Some times kicking her over for 5 mins to get it started. Feels great though kicking the shit out of big bike. The only way to start a 490.
