How to Start a New Sketchbook

I used to be uncertain what to sketch on the first page of a new sketchbook, until I had this idea. Now, I usually reserve the first page just for this!

Very good, Danny! I find it so intimidating to start a new sketchbook. I think I’ll try this, and put today’s date on the top calendar, the leave the bottom one blank until the sketchbook is full. That way I’ll have something on the first page! On another subject, your plant by the sofa looks like it has outgrown its pot. Maybe it’s time for a bigger pot, but be sure to pick up the whole thing (roots, dirt and all) when you transfer to the bigger pot. Then your plant will still feel at home. ;-)

What kind of sketchbook do you use? I've notice that your watercolors don't stain the other side of the paper, i've been having problems with mine because one drawing in one page can be seen in the other and it's really frustrating!

You need to watch out how heavy your paper is. The higher the number, the heavier and therefore thicker the paper is going to be. Most watercolor artists choose 300gsm paper, the surface of his sketchbook looks quite smooth though so I'd also love to know which one this is. Probably stilman&burn

I love your style! How do you manage to get rid of the pencil without ruining the ink or the paper? No matter what I do, there are always traces or something else that is messed up...

Thanks! I'd suggest using a lighter pencil then and not making the lines too dark. :)
