Thank you for this! I’ve been a singer/songwriter and performer my whole life and I started my social media so I could get a better fan base. I’m trying to find interesting video ideas to keep the momentum going in between shows and music videos. For me, the mindset of ‘I’m just a mom who makes music, nobody wants to see my life behind the scenes’ is the thing holding me back. What id recommend at the start is using youtube just for music and instagram, tiktok, etc to have content, bts, audience engagement, music promo etc I think russ is a good artist to study for social media content ideas.

Agreed I'm a dad and musican that does alot of different things but alwayz feel mixed up about what I think people want to see! Sometimes I make a video and then decide that I don't think anyone wld like it or that it gives the wrong impression. I know alot of times I'm over thinking it which has never really been my style but yeah, hopefully one day I will figure it all out and be able to do what I've been wanting or hoping to do for a while now. It's almost like I know I can get more views and subs/fans doing some other niche type channel but then remember that's not what I like doing. Smh I dunno, I just need to try and pick a lane and stay in it for a min then try and bounce around! I saw a comment that made sense above about using youtube for only music and then social media for all the other promo and behind the scenes stuff...

I have this channel, a music channel, and have been tring my best for about 3 months now constantly uploading, then I have another channel for Lego, and both are doing... Quite bad, I just have no clue what I'm doing wrong and what I can do to actually gain traction :( My last original song has been up for a day and a half, with only 1 view... This all sounds great, but how can you be creative and make the music you want to make, but your constantly told that ‘In order for your KZbin Channel to succeed, you have to niche down’? Does that mean only playing one genre of music? That doesn’t sound like freedom.

No, that's actually not the case. The confusion may be in understanding what it means to niche down. It doesn't mean you have to change what you do, it means that you position what you do as a specific type of product for a particular kind of audience. For example, if you are a jazz musician, you don't need to change that. But you need to package it in a certain way so that it appeals to specific audiences. So like, niching down could be something like, you are a jazz musician that performs relaxing, inspirational jazz for people who suffer from anxiety. That's something specific and it is a great example of what it means to niche down.
