Thanks for watching! For listening practice, I would recommend listening to a short excerpt (just 1 or 2 sentences) and repeat it over and over. Eventually you will pick up the individual words more easily, then when you hear the same words in a different situation, it will be easier to catch them again, hope that helps!

Thank your ❤❤❤ i wish one day i can speak English very good .The same thing is very difficult for me. I may feel like a constant failure, as I have been stuck at the A2 level and have not advanced a single step to the B1 level. Despite all my efforts, I have succeeded. It makes sense to learn it, especially since people around me never speak it. It is difficult.
@highlevellistening
@highlevellistening 28 күн бұрын
Hello! Thanks for sharing! We know it can be frustrating to feel like you are stuck when you are learning another language. If it makes you feel any better, remember that the 'distance' between levels (A1 > A2, A2 > B1) get longer and longer the more you advance. Going to A1 to A2 feels very fast and exciting, because a lot of A1 and A2 words are very common and used every day. BUT, A2 to B1 feels *a lot* longer, because the vocabulary becomes a little less common, the grammar structures get a bit longer, and the range of vocabulary suddenly gets wider. It simply takes a lot more time and focus to get through all these new things, and that can suddenly feel very slow compared to your A1 > A2 journey. I hope that makes sense! The point is to keep going - you're moving in the right direction, it's just time, time time, practice, practice, practice!

Great!! A more appropriate and super effective one is, “ I am going out for a puff!! Do you….?” The risk is an quick end for non-puffers!! So follow this upload. Now your boss enters in the picture; he asks: where are you going? Shouldn’t you rather quit and stick in your desk!! How about the report, I asked you to prepare? Now it’s your turn to be super creative!! All the best!!

Hi, guys 🤗. I have a lot to catch up on with you. I'm gonna start with this: If I answer to the question "how are you?" With a happy "l'm ok", does it still sound like not so good? 🤔 By the way, how often do you actually ask "how are you" instead of "how are you doing? " or "how's it going?" Thank you. Keep up with the good work. You're amazing 🤩
@highlevellistening
@highlevellistening 25 күн бұрын
Hello! Good questions! If you say: "I'm okay." in a positive, happy tone then yes it sounds good. No one will think you are unhappy or unwell. "I'm okay" is like a "5/6 out of 10." I think as a teacher I often say: "How are you?", but with my friends and family, I more often use "How's it going?" or "How are you doing?" At work or in the office, "How are you" is probably the safest choice. But if you are very close with your colleagues and have a good relationship, you can say: "How's it going" or "How are you doing" and that's appropriate as well. Hope that makes sense!
@mepublic2
@mepublic2 25 күн бұрын
@@highlevellistening It makes total sense About the other thing, 6/10 is not so good 😝. I've been trying to convince someone (a student ) to answer in a different way 😄. I'll keep trying.

We talk a bit about this in the video but here’s the reduced version: Do you like the job so far? is a simple answer, yes I do, no I don’t. But how* do you like the job so far is asking for a bit more of your experience along with the answer. I like it (present), it’s been good (present perfect, experience) It’s okay I’ve had a good experience. I’m not sure if I like it, it’s been difficult. Hope that helps!

Small talk is boring. "How was your weekend?" "Whats going on?" "How's it going?" "What plans do you have for the weekend?" It all sounds so forced and fake. The way I see it, ditch the small talk and lets go straight for the meat and potatoes. Don't say anything about the whether. Don't ask how was my weekend. Stop making the same old, boring small talk. Ask me about philosophy, poetry, religion, politics, meditation, music, inflation, wars, poverty, homelessness, the migrant crisis. Lets have a real conversation. One of the problems with small talk is, it creates a barrier between people that prevents the deeper, interesting, and intellectual conversations. People get stuck on small talk to the point where they never get to know each other. This is why I say forget about small talk. I wish people would say whats really on their mind instead of feeling obligated to start with small talk. If there is no time for a conversation, a simple "good morning" or "hello" would be sufficient. Or don't say anything. Thats another problem with small talk. Some people feel like they just gotta be saying something. They have a hard time with being quiet.
@highlevellistening
@highlevellistening Ай бұрын
This is a common response to the idea of 'small talk', I think the topics you mentioned, the deeper ones about life and thoughts in general, are perfectly suitable for more private situations, such as at home or out in bars. At work though, you simply won't have the time to dive into such deep topics. Imagine your boss walks past your desk and hears you and your colleague discussing the meaning of life and the politics of war - they would probably tell you stop yapping and get back to work! So given the limitations of a work setting, small talk is the best you can do with that short time you have to chat - context is everything!

Small talk doesn't have to be fake though. If you ask your colleague about his/her weekend, genuinely wanting to hear about it, it wouldn't be fake! Myself I'm the type of people who only does the genuine small talk; if I don't want to hear about someone else's abouts, I'm perfectly comfortable with just a short hello...
