Language is an art form. Even small changes can lead to different results. Today's lesson taught me very useful information.
@highlevellisteningАй бұрын
We absolutely agree! These kinds of nuances are so important!
@alfredonieto4412Ай бұрын
Thank you Kat and Mark, this lesson is awesome. SometImes, I do not understand completely an instruction or guideline, and I used to say, 'could you explain to me again? when 'Could you clarify the task for me again', sounds much more polite but at the same time, self secure. You do not give the impression you don't know what you're doing. Thanks a lot!

That's great! Yes just these little changes in language can make a big difference - we're glad you could pick up a good new phrase!

You're very welcome! It's hard to find these kinds of polite / professional expressions in English textbooks, and often the softer the better (especially in the UK!).

I think the right communication is important on a daily basis as well,not only for working. Personally, It always stands up for me when someone communicates in a polite,respectful manner. Though not in a fake way :) Some generally have a double standard attitude, like that's ok if I talk with you rudely or directly, but if you make them taste their own medicine then it's a problem:-) We all have our problems, just being a bit nice does not hurt anyone:)
@highlevellisteningАй бұрын
"Manners cost nothing"! I totally agree, if you can be kind and sensitive to others in the workplace, you should go far. "Kill them with kindness" is another phrase, which means you are so nice that people *can't* be rude about you 😉

Hi guys! Thanks a lot for the useful expressions. Could you explain what phrases are usually used to ask for a raise? Thank!
@highlevellisteningАй бұрын
Great question! Here are some possible ideas: 1. Direct approach: 'I would like to discuss the possibility of a salary adjustment based on my performance and contributions.' 'Can we schedule a meeting to talk about my compensation? I’d like to review my progress and the impact I’ve made.' 2. Based on achievements: 'Given the success of the recent projects I’ve led, I’d like to discuss how my compensation can better reflect the value I bring.' 'In light of my increased responsibilities, I believe it's a good time to revisit my salary.' 3. More formal request: 'I would like to request a salary review, as I’ve taken on additional duties and believe my role has evolved.' Hope that helps, and good luck!

Thank you teachers as always. I think I've been confused about the usage of "quite" in the sentence "I don't quite understand". I thought it means a lot or very much instead of meaning "completely". Very good to know! But if I actually get little understanding of the task, what are some polite and easy ways to express?
@highlevellisteningАй бұрын
Glad to help clarify the use of 'quite'! 😊 If you're not fully understanding something and want to express it politely, here are some easy ways to say it: 1. Polite and indirect: 'I’m not sure I fully understand the task. Could you explain it again, please?' 'I’m a bit confused about some parts. Would you mind going over it again?' 2. More direct: 'I don’t really get the full picture. Could you clarify it for me?' 'I’m having a little trouble understanding. Could you provide more details?' These phrases keep things polite and help you ask for further explanation. Hope that helps!
