This was the best one I could find. Others were very confusing thank you😎

Very clear instructions! I prefer the traditional method because it is a lump free way to end a stitch! I learned a method with cross stitching that also eliminates the need for knots which makes for a smoother appearance on both sides. Thank you!

I use both methods as well. Last night I watched a Sarah Homfrey video, on KZbin, she does it totally different. It’s worth a look.Thanks Kim.

Thank you, the type of embroidery I’m doing doesn’t allow knots and every video I’ve found for beginners either shows how to do this with a satin stitch or a knot so they were not helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video

Which is best for a t shirt? Which will be less likely to come out in the wash
@Chatterboxquilts7 жыл бұрын
Hi Gen: I would start and stop with a knot to be sure that the stitches won't come out in the wash. The first method I show - the no-knot one - should work too, but just so there isn't any problem, I would suggest using a knot.

Chatterbox Quilts hi! my knots always seem to untie themselves when i cut off the excess- is there a certain knot that will hold well or better?
@Chatterboxquilts4 жыл бұрын
First, don't cut off too close to the knot which might help. I just use a simple knot where you for a loop and pull the thread through it and pull tightly. You could also try a quilter's knot. If you don't know how to make one of these, there are many videos online to show you how to do it. Hopefully one of these will help you.

which end of the thread off the skein do you use to prevent knotting .... cut end or the older end ??? it has something to do with the twist
@Chatterboxquilts Жыл бұрын
I usually just cut off the length of thread that I need from the cut end and then pull out the number of threads I need (if it is a 6 ply thread) and condition it with beeswax or similar product, smoothing it out as I go. I haven't had any issues with it twisting doing it this way.

Lol I’m like crazy about knots. I’m paranoid
@chloegarcia43823 жыл бұрын
This might be a dumb question but how do you secure the thread correctly in the needle if you aren’t using knots?
@Chatterboxquilts3 жыл бұрын
I pull the thread through the needle and make sure there is a long tail on the non-stitching side that I continue to adjust as I use up the thread. Hopefully this answers your question but if not, please let me know.
@stummkind3 жыл бұрын
wouldn't the thread come out eventually over time, if you just weave it together?
@Chatterboxquilts3 жыл бұрын
I've never had this happen with any of my embroideries. You'd have to do a lot of tugging to get that thread out.

Hi..I could not really follow the first traditional method. Could you please show us that by doing it? I'm a beginner...thanks :)

I'm not sure what you'd like me to show as I show both the traditional and the alternate method in this video.

@@Chatterboxquilts the steps after 1.20...where you said "rethread and weave it back the other direction"..I did not really understand how to do that...
@Chatterboxquilts3 жыл бұрын
You would take the tail that I show in the video (this is what you did when you first started stitching) and thread it through the needle and then weave it back through the stitches the same way that I wove the thread through the stitches when I was done stitching. Hope this helps.

Where is a good place to get patterns and thread??
@Chatterboxquilts4 жыл бұрын
Depends on what type of patterns and threads you are referring to. If you're talking about quilting, I always recommend going to your local quilt shop to see what they have to offer. There are many, many online shops which you can also use - just search for them and you'll see the huge variety. Same goes for embroidery - lots of local and online vendors to choose from.
