I'm a software engineer with a long-held dream of becoming a freelancer. Despite having the skills, imposter syndrome has kept me from starting the journey. Unlike your friends, the reason I haven't started isn't because I'm well-compensated in my current role. Thank you for the well-structured and inspiring video-I hope it will give me the push I need to finally get started

i wouldn't make freelancing your dream. it's very unstable. it is much better to be an employee than be your own boss. most freelancers just have to do this to survive. it's not a goal
@TinaHuang1
@TinaHuang1 25 күн бұрын
I would respectfully disagree. I don't see being an employee as any more stable than as a freelancer. Being an employee may lull you into a sense of stability by having the same pay check every month but one day you might just suddenly get laid off and lose the majority of your source of income. This has happened to many people. Being a freelancer is certainly more effort, especially in the beginning. There is also definitely instability in terms of how much money you are making from a month to month basis. However, it does allow you to diversify your income across different projects. In any case, pros and cons for both of course :) Perhaps it's not a bad idea to keep the full time job and work on freelancing as a side gig.

@@TinaHuang1 freelancing is not a bad thing to fall back on after a layoff when you are in survival mode, but full time jobs are structured to provide health insurance, retirement, PTO, maternity/paternity leave, and other benefits which amount to a lot more than flexibility. As workers we should not settle for an economy in which we are all hustling as full time gig workers. It’s a late stage capitalism mindset that is not serving any of us. We should be mobilizing to protect ourselves from layoffs, make sure all workers have benefits and job security, and fix our economy. Also, as female workers it is much harder to protect ourselves against harassment/assault as a freelancer. That is a big problem in the entertainment industry. Working for a big company with a Human Resources department will typically be safer for women

Thank you Tina for this great video!, it has broken down a lot of things for me, the idea behind all this is to know it will take time, the problem we have is that we want quick wins, and to build something genuine that will last won't be quick, it will always take time. Great to see how far you have come
