Godot 4 is great for beginner gamedevs. It starts up quick and runs great on low-end computers. The GDScript language feels like a repackaged python and the Node system isn't too bad to understand. I started in Unity for the first 6-8 months, and it was good. But when I switched to Godot, I noticed that it was easier for me to escape tutorial-land. You can start wherever you like, but I've had a really good experience with Godot.

Thanks for the great guide! I’d love to know, how did you personally get started in game development, and what was your first project like?

I have a very similar story to a lot of game devs out there, I watched the movie Indie game and got more and more interested in the hobby! Now I work towards it daily and love every second of it!!

Hey, great video man! When I imagine a game I would like to create, it's a game that I have always wanted to play but nobody created it yet. Like The Sims but multiplayer, that I would be able to play with my friends and it would have hundreds or more functionalities that The Sims currently has. Or a proper working DayZ. As you said, something like that is impossible on my own. So if I cannot create a game like this, then I don't want to do game dev at all, I don't think we need another 2D game that 100 people will play for 10 minutes and never again. I can never make myself play one of those games, cause they seem pointless to me. So why would I want to create a game like that? Game dev is fun but I guess I am just lacking motivation.

Well, it might not be possible YET* I understand the frustration of wanting to make bigger projects like that not feeling like you can but all of these games are capable of being made, but you might need more resources. For a lot of people, we just dont have those extra resources so its easier for us to start off making smaller games. These smaller games dont have to be 2D! you can download blender and make some really cool 3D games if thats what you want to do! Game dev is fun and if its what you want to do dont stop yourself!
